ABOUT
I am passionate about walking with others through the challenges that life can hold. In my own life journey I have discovered the value and importance of secure relationships in the healing process. Fear, shame, or wounds frequently become life-dominating issues that are difficult to process alone. I love to create an environment in the counseling relationship that is marked by high levels of trust, grace, and acceptance that I refer to as "hospitality of the heart." It is my sacred honor and privilege to share an experience with clients through the counseling relationship where they heal, learn, explore, and grow, experiencing new levels of peace and freedom.

ABOUT
A strong and soft heart. This is what I want for you. A heart with the strength to advocate for yourself and others, stand up for what you believe in, support yourself and your loved ones, find steadfastness in your spiritual journey, be courageously vulnerable, and grow in confidence and resilience to persevere. And a heart that, despite the pain and bitterness, stays soft through feeling every big feeling, loving with compassion and kindness, and having grace for yourself and others. You can have a strong and a soft heart. You can set boundaries and love passionately in your relationships. You can parent with structure and nurture. You can build coping skills for your anxiety and fully validate your overwhelming feelings.
Several years ago in a season of pain, a quote hooked me and kept me coming back... "Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness." - Iain Thomas
If you asked my closest friends or colleagues what I always say I'm striving for, they would tell you "a strong and soft heart." I became a therapist so that I could be in the "closed door conversations," sitting with people as they navigate vulnerability and pain, because I believe there can be healing and restoration in every little crevice of our world. I would be privileged to walk through a piece of that story with you.
So often the world makes us hard and the pain makes us hate and the bitterness steals our sweetness. We wrestle through anxiety and depression, feelings of confusion, challenges in relationships that seem difficult to overcome, and overwhelming feelings we don't know what to do with. This is often what we're navigating and working towards together in therapy. Humans are resilient - we're overcomers. We can have strong and soft hearts.

Laura Roman
Grayslake, IL
ABOUT
Laura has worked with White Stone since 2018 and specializes in individual, couples, and family counseling, ages 14 through adulthood. Most every person needs a safe place to balance exploring current challenges and digging into core causes to develop long-term healing, not only short-term behavioral changes. Because no two individuals are the same, she compassionately walks with people through present struggles and strengths, to gain clarity in who they are and where they have come from, supporting them in the discovery of themselves, others, and God.
Before counseling, Laura experienced living in several different cultures and sees both the beauty and the pain of transitioning and integrating cultures within a person. She guides others towards recognizing their true identity, regardless of their culture(s), allowing them to live their life to the fullest.
Laura is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois. She completed her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with high honors and her B.A. in Pre-Counseling from Moody Bible Institute.
Outside of the office, Laura enjoys spending time with her husband, traveling, exploring, and experiencing new cultures, or finding themselves outside, enjoying biking, canoeing, and gardening both indoor and outdoor plants.

ABOUT
Life can bring about transitions that are both expected, and unexpected. Examples of this can be a shift in your job, stepping in or out of a relationship, traumatic events or moving to a new environment. You may find yourself in a place of disarray, confusion, or uncertainty which may result in anxiety, depression, or both. Major growth spurts often feel incredibly challenging when they’re happening! Certain changes can be good, while others tragic. Yet even then, the right approach to handling that change can lead you to positive personal growth. My hope is that, together, we can work towards that type of growth for you.
A successful therapeutic relationship is one of collaboration. Personally, I believe that there are many ways to collaborate whether emotionally, spiritually, or around your physical health . It is important for you to feel empowered, and be an active part of the journey to healing rather than a mere bystander. Together we will identify what your goals are.
A successful therapeutic relationship is one of collaboration. Personally, I believe that there are many ways to collaborate, whether emotionally, spiritually, or around your physical health. It is important for you to feel empowered, and be an active part of the journey to healing rather than a mere bystander. Together we will identify what your goals are and what you would like to get out of our time together. We will find moments to celebrate the little "wins" along the way. It is often the small steps that get you to the finish line, and those small steps are worth acknowledging. If you choose to work with me, we can take steps towards your growth, together!

ABOUT
Life is full of loss, transition, difficult relationships, unmet expectations, and change. While natural, the resulting grief from these experiences can be overwhelming and consuming. Grief is unique and individual, often highlighting or expanding on other challenges in life, such as anxiety, depression, and unhealthy coping strategies. No matter the uniqueness, all individuals deserve a safe, confidential place to bring these challenges, and specialized care to help them understand, process, and move through their experience.
Based on a strong foundation of personal experience and professional training, I provide counseling for individuals and couples struggling with: grief and loss, anxiety, depression, transition, self-esteem, challenges in familial relationships, friendship concerns, healthy romantic relationships, relationship enhancement, and effective communication.
At the root of my work with each client is a strong therapeutic relationship which provides the safety and comfort needed to explore these issues fully, and a willingness to embrace the strong emotion and pain so often feared in other settings. Please feel free to contact me for further inquiries on services, or for presentations at your organization.

During her free time, Christie enjoys cooking and baking, completing home projects, and spending quality time with her husband and three children.

ABOUT
As a graduate of TEDS, I enjoyed providing counseling services to undergraduate and graduate students during my clinical training. I look forward to building a connection with you by listening carefully to your unique story and creating a safe space where you feel genuinely heard, understood, and respected. Using a holistic approach, I will help you explore the psychological, physical, social, and spiritual factors impacting your personal wellness and your relationships with others. As you strive to love and be loved, you may not always understand why you struggle or how to build and maintain healthy relationships. You may want help confronting fear, shame, and unresolved pain. Therapy can help you gain insight, learn healthy coping skills to reduce anxiety, and learn how to improve self-care, build meaningful relationships, and implement changes in your life with renewed hope for your future.
I enjoy working with college-aged students as they transition to fully independent adulthood. I received training with One Love Foundation to help young adults learn how to avoid harmful relationships, alter negative thinking and improve self-image, establish boundaries with social media use, and build healthy relationships based on trust.
I also provide therapy for people who suffer from symptoms of betrayal trauma due to being in an intimate relationship with someone who struggles with pornography or sex addiction. I received training through the Association of Partners of Sex Addicts Trauma Specialists (APSATS) and I use their effective model to assess and treat the traumatic impact of sex addiction and betrayal on spouses or partners in an intimate relationship.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Nationally Certified Counselor, and a member of the Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and the Catholic Psychotherapy Association (CPA). I earned my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from TEDS. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked in corporate training and development and volunteered as a Youth Leader in my church community while raising our three children. I am a graduate of Northwestern University and the University of New Hampshire.

ABOUT
Something I've always appreciated is how unique people can be- how every single person brings something that is only their own to the table. There is so much to be found in granting a person the space to explore themselves unapologetically. I enjoy watching a person hold all the parts of themselves and figure out how they truly fit together.

Karis Lee
Telehealth
ABOUT
Karis is called to walk with people, taking her gifts of empathy, warmth, and connection into every session. In recognizing the brokenness of this world, Karis made the decision to become a counselor with the desire to be a part of God's healing work, pointing people to the God who is pained with us and accepts us for who we are.
Typically working with young adults and women, Karis commonly meets with clients facing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, spiritual issues, low self-esteem, life transitions, and navigating career aspirations. Being Asian American herself, Karis also has a big heart for the Asian American community and the unique experiences of this minority group.
Jesus' compassion during his ministry is Karis' inspiration. She has a heart to make people feel seen, heard, valued, and unconditionally loved just as Christ did. She believes that with this foundation, growth, change, and healing are fostered.
Karis finds that people are so much more resilient than we realize, and is encouraged as she gets to witness God's healing work in the lives of her clients. She dives deeply into people's experiences and beliefs, uncovering distorted beliefs and unprocessed emotions that can hinder us from living in the freedom of who we are in Christ. Karis believes counseling is a partnership between counselor and client and is committed to walking with her clients and taking on difficult issues together.
In joining Steeple, Karis feels the freedom to combine her clinical work with her faith as the foundation-she can be her authentic self, while also being trained and supported by fellow Christian counselors.

ABOUT
I became a therapist with the goal to create a sacred and safe space for my clients. Overwhelming pressure, life transitions, past trauma, or simply the burden of daily stressors can pile on until it feels impossible to thrive or even just survive. Therapy certainly isn't an immediate fix and I don't offer any easy answers or platitudes in the therapy room, but I do strongly believe that therapy can be an extremely profound and powerful tool for empowerment, healing, and freedom.

ABOUT
I believe in the transformative power of therapy and look forward to working with you on your journey toward wholeness. Whether working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, or other life challenges, I strive to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental environment where my clients can discover the root of their struggles and make lasting changes.
I have a particular heart for working with Pastors and other minority leaders in the church, as well as those who carry the burden of church hurt. With two master's degrees in Theology and a background in ordained ministry, I bring a deep understanding of spirituality and its role in personal growth and healing. My approach to counseling is grounded in psychodynamic theory, where I strive to bring both clinical excellence and biblical faithfulness while always respecting each person's unique beliefs and values.
I am also a husband and a father, and I am from the United Kingdom. After a decade of ministry in London and Oxford, I felt called to study Mental Health Counseling at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I completed my Mdiv (MTh) at the University of Oxford. I am currently completing my Internship at Steeple Counseling in Arlington Heights.

ABOUT
Deciding to take the next step to participate in therapy can be challenging, but it can be one of the best decisions, especially with someone holding space for you. As a black woman who grew up in a religious home, there was no room for therapy, and I know now that was one of the biggest mistakes made. We all go through things at different stages of our lives. I hope you know you are not alone and that I am here to come alongside you to walk through these complicated issues in life.

ABOUT
Born and raised in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, I bring a deep appreciation for multicultural backgrounds and families to my work as a therapist. It is my firm belief that everyone deserves support and guidance on their journey toward emotional well-being and personal growth. I am committed to providing culturally sensitive and inclusive therapy, where each client feels seen, heard, and understood.
I had a profound realization about my calling to become a therapist, one that stemmed from my personal journey. Throughout my life, I found myself pushing my emotions to the side and putting up a façade of strength. I believed that showing vulnerability would make me appear weak, so I bottled up my feelings. I want to be a compassionate presence for those who feel overwhelmed by their emotions or trapped by their circumstances. I am genuinely passionate to help others navigate through life's ups and downs. My personal journey has taught me the value of having someone by your side during difficult times, and I aspire to be that supportive presence for others on their path to healing and self-discovery.

ABOUT
Over the years, I have come to value how therapy is a creative exchange that helps individuals find hope. I believe effective counseling occurs in a relational, relaxed environment, where clients feel safe to share who they are and can trust their therapist to provide guidance and support. Our thoughts and feelings are intricately connected to the way we move and act in the world, and developing an understanding of our physical, emotional, and relational selves is a pathway to personal transformation. I use both talk therapy and mind-body approaches as a part of the counseling process. I love helping people feel more integrated and healthy, become unstuck, and heal.

ABOUT
Though my training was originally in counseling I also have worked as a pastor, which shaped my view of personal growth and caring for clients. I was at Willow Creek Community Church (Glenview campus) for six years overseeing marriage ministry, pastoral care, and small groups. I continue supporting local churches by teaching, leading workshops, and coaching staff/volunteers.
Currently I work with adults and couples. I enjoy bringing in tools and strategies from my time as a pastor. A specialty area is working with men who are stuck in unhealthy habits or patterns that keep them from reaching their full potential. Other clinical interests include spiritual practice / spiritual direction, depression, anxiety, life transitions, adoption, men's issues, and marital issues.
At home he enjoys spending lots of time with his wife and four children and is involved with his local church.

ABOUT
It has been said that "hope is being able to see the light despite all of the darkness. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, we just can't see the path that will steer us through the emotional, relational and spiritual difficulties we're facing and bring us to the place where we belong. We need an objective light that will guide us through the obstacles and help us reach our place of security and rest.
My passion is to help you find that light. I promise to do my very best to help you find truth, hope and healing in whatever difficulties you may be facing. I will work hard to provide a place where you will find safety, honesty, empathy, encouragement, and love as we navigate your path to achieve the life you desire.
It would also be an honor for me to incorporate spirituality and faith into therapy sessions for those who are interested. If desired, we will pray together, and allow God's word (through discussion and scripture found in the Bible) to guide us in our pursuit of truth. I would love nothing more to be a part of your treatment and to bring the light of hope during your times of uncertainty.

ABOUT
What do you do when there's a gap between the life you want and the one you're living now? You probably have a vision for a better day-to-day for yourself-taking bold new strides in your career, relating better to your significant other, overcoming pain from your family, creating authentic art, feeling good in your body again, speaking up for yourself when you couldn't before-but you just can't quite get there on your own.
I'd love to help. Our sessions are a place for you to bring your full life story, things that feel scary, frustrating, or confusing, hopes that you've tucked away a long time ago, and leave with more connection and clarity than you had before.
The process of healing is sacred...and also wildly irreverent at times. So I'm a counselor sees the therapeutic benefit of scripture and poetry, but also a well-placed swear word. I resonate with those who are artists-at-heart and also recovering chronic overthinkers. I'm passionate about words, music, and art; the intersection of theology and psychology; and the often unexplored relationship between mental health and the working world.

ABOUT
It is a privilege to be invited into someone's story- whether it be a few pages or an entire chapter. I hope to enter into someone's story during the editing process and empower them to share their story, no matter how beautiful, messy, and unexpected it may be. Through empowerment we find truth, and through truth we find healing. My hope is that through the telling of our stories, as raw and unadulterated as they are, we can come together and find healing and peace.
Since trauma work can be a painful part of the story-telling process, I have specialized training in Trauma Integration Therapy and Narrative Story-Telling. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and working towards a certification in EMDR.
My style of therapy revolves around an emotionally focused approach with narrative elements. I graduated with a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2020. Additionally, I also have over a decade of experience with the US Navy in Combat Medicine and Mental Health and have a special heart for military and first responder families, couples, and individuals.

ABOUT
As a child, I took sailing lessons on Lake Michigan. At times we were required to sail the boats alone on the open water. Getting tossed around by giant waves on a tiny boat with nothing but water for miles felt confusing, overwhelming, and, at times, terrifying. As I grew up, I realized how often life can feel the same way. In my over fifteen years of experience as a licensed counselor, it has been my joy and privilege to empower clients to navigate the rough waters, giant waves, and changing winds that life can throw at us.
I received my Master's in Education in Community Counseling through Loyola University Chicago in 2005 and have been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2006. My career has included extensive work with adolescents and adults from a variety of backgrounds and in a variety of settings that range from at-risk youth on the south side of Chicago to training other professional counselors. I have taught classes and workshops on mental wellness topics for colleges, churches, and community programs.
I have received advanced training in using CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems and Narrative approaches in therapy. I have extensive experience and training as both a college and career counselor. I also specialize in counseling those who have experienced religious abuse and/or spiritual trauma. I use a variety of therapeutic techniques that are always deeply rooted in each client's unique story and their goals for growth and change, including helping them articulate what those goals may be.

ABOUT
My own graduate experience was deeply formational-- first with deconstruction and then rebuilding, piece by piece. I am grateful for the ways I have learned to sit with clients and be a securely attached presence as they navigate what they need. My clinical approach is emotionally-focused and attachment-heavy. I lean hard into a pastoral integration when it's welcomed. I also am pursuing extra training to be a certified sex therapist!

ABOUT
I work with children, teenagers, and adults ranging in issues such as life changes, those going through challenging life stages, addictions or trauma. As things in our life come up, we often ask, "How are we going to cope?" How do we handle medical issues, single parenting, loss, grief, or the challenges of living and being a faithful Christian while facing the emotional depths of trials? In addition to talk therapy, I often use art therapy techniques, knowing the creative process in and of itself is deeply impactful, and yet, always the client's choice. I take an approach to counseling that allows a client a variety of ways to express his or her thoughts and feelings, and to see themselves through their own art.

ABOUT
As a counselor, my hope is to provide clients with a safe, secure space to freely process feelings, and unpack any hidden/unresolved areas of life. In each session, it is my desire for clients to truly feel heard, seen, and known. With my person-centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approaches, I hope clients will experience healing and restoration through dialogues in counseling. As an individual from South Korea, I adopt a lens to view the world more diversely; whether it be cultures, spirituality, or identity issues, it is my passion to help clients from unique backgrounds. I am also trauma-informed and trained, so I care about how current life and mood affected by past trauma. I support my clients to rewrite their targeted area(s) of life stories while processing traumatic experiences. I offer sessions in both English and Korean to adequately serve counseling populations.
I see counseling as a tool of growth beyond symptom reduction; I strive to help equip each client to adopt a more healthy and holistic view of self, enhancing their spirituality and quality of life. I am committed to walking alongside you to discover and explore any unrevealed life concerns, and unresolved past/current emotions.
I also see the importance of establishing true identity through Christ and His holistic healing in counseling sessions. She believes counseling provides tools to cope with transitions, challenges in life, and emotional regulation.

ABOUT
As a Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Nurse, I work from a holistic, trauma-informed perspective. I believe our health is an interplay between our physical bodies, our minds, our emotions, and our spirits. If one part of us is hurting and left untreated, the others are affected. Through my long career as a registered nurse, my dream to help bring hope and healing to those suffering in mind, body, and spirit led me to seek an advanced degree in Mental Health Counseling. My interest and study has been in trauma recovery, mind-body-spirit connection, and how the messages and experiences from our growing up years influence our health and life today. International travel to places like India, Singapore, and Jordan, and work with refugees has further influenced my approach to helping people understand their own lives. My personal journey of working through the messages from my family of origin, infertility, parenting, and chronic family illness has helped expand my empathy, wisdom, and care in my work.
I especially enjoy working with those who are dealing with the effects of past traumas, those in life transitions (especially new parents), aging populations, and cross cultural workers.
I utilize Schema Therapy, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, and Somatic Therapy.

ABOUT
Transitions are hard and life is full of them. You may be experiencing a change in your beliefs, relationships, home, community, or responsibilities. While change may come with joy, so many other feelings surround it as well: sadness, fear, anxiety, exhaustion. Maybe these feelings are new to you and you don’t know how to handle or express them. Maybe you’ve felt this way for a long time and you’ve reached a point of needing some support. You may be curious about why you do the things you do, and why you are the way you are. You may be frustrated that what once worked for you isn’t working in this season, and you don’t know what to do next. When you look at your life or the world at large, you might be feeling stuck, sick, sad, or helpless and may be wondering, “where do I go from here?”
I’ve always been labeled a “feeler” for as long as I can remember – and that wasn’t always a positive thing. But in my journey to a career in therapy, I’ve found that it’s a gift and skill I’ve honed – to sit in the gray area of hard or unknown feelings with people, help them untangle things, and find a path forward. I like helping people get comfortable with their own internal world and get to know themselves. Each person is so unique, which means their reason for wanting a therapist’s support is also unique. I want to know people authentically and create space for deep connection that can lead to healing, growth, and progress.
Working together looks like diving into what’s really going on inside of you. We’ll create a space where none of your feelings are too much, too intense, or not enough. We’ll work collaboratively to identify patterns and themes, practice new ways of thinking and communicating, and work out ways to change unwanted cycles in your life. Together, we’ll work to understand the symptoms you’re experiencing, and build a plan to help move the needle on wherever it is that you’re feeling stuck. My hope is that after each session, you will feel understood and known in a world that is increasingly anonymous.

ABOUT
There is a deep-seated need for control and security in all of us. We want to feel prepared for what’s ahead and know we have the ability to handle whatever life throws our way. However, life can be unpredictable, and challenging situations can arise unexpectedly. It is natural to experience emotions such as anger, sadness, or shame when faced with difficulties. The pressure to solve problems can quickly become overwhelming. It’s important to remember you aren’t alone in your journey, and with the right support, you can overcome any obstacle that comes your way.
When I left my job in engineering to pursue a passion in therapy, I was rocked with the amount of stress that I experienced. I grew up being told that success was measured by meeting the expectations of those around me. Naturally, making a decision for myself at this scale felt very out of place. I had no idea what to expect and was terrified. But when I look back at this experience, I realize I also unknowingly entered a journey of self-discovery. I began to learn about myself and the life I wanted to create.
As an Asian American, I am continuously learning about how my experiences have shaped my identity. I’ve learned the value of unlearning shame and embracing who I am. Coupled with finding healing in my own therapy, I’ve grown to see the value in promoting mental health and its impact on both the individual and the surrounding relationships. I believe each person has the ability to achieve their dreams and goals, and my goal is to provide a space where you are safe to be your authentic self and fully accepted.
Therapy is a collaborative process! We’ll work together to process your emotions and thoughts, experience healing, and develop ways to face life’s challenges. I want you to feel heard and validated, and our relationship will be built on empathy, support, and acceptance. Together, we will find a deeper understanding of your needs and experiences, so that you can make meaningful steps towards achieving your goals. I’m excited to work with you and walk alongside you!
