Provost Wayne Johnson has announced the appointment of Professor Katelin Tooma as Interim Dean of Trinity Law School (TLS), effective September 1.
"Professor Tooma is no stranger to TLS. She is a gifted leader and administrator, serving as assistant dean of TLS from 2017 to 2019," Provost Johnson said. "In that capacity, she led in academic quality initiatives, the overhaul of the Legal Research & Writing curriculum, donor relations, and strategic planning for ABA accreditation."
Professor Tooma has served as a Legal Fellow for International Justice Mission and an Associate Attorney at Bremer Whyte Brown and O’Meara LLP. She is a graduate of Chapman University (JD) and Pepperdine (BA).
"I am excited about the possibilities for TLS, and very much look forward to working with our faculty and staff to further the school's positive impact in the lives of our students and community."

Outgoing dean of TLS, Myron Steeves, served for 29 years as a law professor and 11 years as the dean. He plans to focus on private practice after his departure. Under his leadership, TLS introduced the fully online JD and has experienced significant growth in both the JD and Flex program.
"Not only have there been exciting developments in programs serving an increasing number of students under his leadership but he has also gathered and developed an exceptionally talented and committed leadership team who together have brought TLS where it is today," Johnson said. "All of this bodes well for the future of TLS."
"Along with President Perrin, I would like to express my deep appreciation for Dean Steeves' outstanding leadership and sacrificial service over his distinguished career at Trinity Law School," Johnson said. "For his outstanding leadership and service to TLS, Dean Steeves has been awarded the title of Dean Emeritus. Please join me in expressing to him both gratitude for his leadership and best wishes for his future as he returns to private law practice."
The university will be conducting a national search for the next permanent Dean of Trinity Law School. As Interim Dean, Professor Tooma will be working with TLS faculty, university administration, and key consultants to build a strategic plan for considering ABA accreditation.
