Trinity Law Student Equipped to Serve Habitat for Humanity

 | Share:

Alyssa HeagyTrinity Law School student Alyssa Heagy, Master of Legal Studies in Nonprofits Organizations’ 22, was named the executive director for Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is an organization that is “seeking to put God’s love into action, by bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope.” Heagy’s path to law school came after she was looking for a career change. Her experience working with nonprofits and studying pre-law in her undergraduate program drew her to begin the MLS program in Nonprofits and Religious Organizations.

“Looking back, I know it was God calling out to me, showing me my purpose and path. The 30 seconds it took to request information truly changed my life.”

Heagy recounts the value of her Nonprofit Law class, “Professor Lisa Runquist’s knowledge and insight into the world of nonprofits has made it one of the greatest classes I have ever attended. Professor Runquist was able to take the complex world of nonprofit law and combine it with antidotes from actual cases, which highlighted the importance and reasoning behind the requirements and laws.”

“Trinity has prepared me for my new job by offering knowledge that is not just found in the classroom.”

While Heagy is only part-way through her MLS program, her time at Trinity has already impacted her career. “Trinity has prepared me for my new job by offering knowledge that is not just found in the classroom. On top of the comprehensive curriculum, I have met other students around the United States who share a similar passion for working with nonprofit and religious organizations. Their stories, advice, and understanding played a huge part in my ability to step into my new role.”  Trinity’s Master of Legal Studies program has a variety of specializations, so students can gain a legal understanding of topics related to their field. We look forward to seeing the ways that God will use Heagy’s gifts and talents in her new role at Habitat for Humanity.
