Ms. Hemmerich came to the law as a second career, after spending significant time as a professional writer. She received her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame Law School, where she graduated magna cum laude while commuting over 100 miles to attend law school. At Notre Dame, Professor Hemmerich earned numerous awards for excellence in academic achievement, and completed constitutional research and writing projects for Justice Amy Coney Barrett and the late Professor John Copeland Nagle. She also invested significant time assisting with the formation of the Exoneration Project on Notre Dame's campus. She was selected to represent the law school at the inaugural meeting of the Irish Studies Colloquium, speaking on controversial constitutional developments in the United States and the United Kingdom. Upon graduation, Ms. Hemmerich worked in corporate litigation at the prestigious law firm Dykema Gossett, PLLC, where she represented a variety of clients with diverse legal needs, including financial services litigation, municipal litigation, personal injury defense, class action, privacy law, environmental litigation, real estate litigation, and appellate practice. She has faithfully served in full-time ministry alongside her husband since 2004, supporting his pastoral career at several churches. They currently reside together with their six children on a farm in upstate New York.
