The Center for Public Legal Theology

SANTA ANA, California, February 11, 2025 – Trinity Law School is pleased and excited to announce the establishment of the Center for Public Legal Theology.

The Center’s mission is to integrate theology and law to advance human flourishing within the principles of ordered liberty.

The Center will promote scholarship, training, and engagement to ground legal initiatives, advocacy, and policy in foundational theological principles. With this Center, Trinity will increasingly lead the way in addressing — and answering — crucial legal questions by affirming the existence of truth and honoring the rule of law.

Trinity has appointed Jeffery J. Ventrella, J.D., Ph.D., as visiting professor of law to direct and develop the Center. Ventrella, who will also teach Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence and continue his work as a scholar, possesses extensive experience in private practice, public governmental practice, and nonprofit religious liberty efforts. His work includes developing and serving as a leader of ADF’s Blackstone Legal Fellowship for 23 years.

“I am honored to join Trinity Law School as a faculty member and direct the development of this Center,” said Ventrella. “I look forward to engaging with students, faculty, and friends of the law school as we work to fulfill this important mission.”

“The Center for Public Legal Theology, the first of its kind among law schools, positions Trinity, when combined with our Center for Human Rights, as a unique and serious player in forming our students for a life of service, robust faculty scholarship, and advocacy in the public square,” said Dean of Trinity Law School Eric Halvorson. “I can think of no one more qualified to lead this new effort than Jeff Ventrella. I join our faculty in welcoming him to Trinity.”
