BE A VOICE OF REASON FOR GOD IN THE CLASSROOM. Science teachers are in high demand. As a Biology with Secondary Education Licensure major, you will be equipped with a fundamental understanding of the world around you, the ability to think in a critical and God-honoring way, and the skills to pass on this knowledge to your students.
You will have the option to take courses toward the Learning Behavior Specialist I (LBS I) endorsement, which allows candidates to teach special education in grades 9-12 or 6-12, the grade levels they will be licensed to teach in Illinois.
As a Biology with Secondary Education Licensure major, you will complete over 100 hours of field experience prior to student teaching. As part of your coursework, you will gain experience in both middle and high school classes in a variety of diverse settings.
Major requirements total 98 hours. This includes 28 hours of required biology courses, 15 hours of chemistry, 7 hours of supporting science coursework, 4 hours in stats, and 44 hours in professional ED coursework.

The Golden Apple Scholars program identifies talented high school seniors, and first and second-year college students, who will commit to teach in high-need schools. The program provides scholarship assistance and a paid summer institute where students receive classroom experience and professional mentoring.
