History can come across as just words on a page – unless you bring it to life. During your time here at Trinity, you will have the opportunity to travel to historic locations and research centers as you learn about events. You will walk away prepared to be a historian in archival work, research, graduate studies, or any number of other contexts.
As a student, you will have the opportunity to step outside the classroom in your studies as you re-enact historic battles, travel and study abroad, and hear seminars that will deepen your knowledge of eras and events.
Trinity is located in a peaceful wooded setting, just 25 miles north of downtown Chicago. This prime location offers some of the nation’s best school districts, a variety of ministry organizations, and 12 Fortune 500 companies within 12 miles of campus to apply practically what you are learning in the classroom. In addition, Trinity is close to many coffee shops, restaurants, cultural experiences, and recreational activities when you need a break from the books!
Most History majors finish their degree in 3-4 years. Requirements total 45 hours. This includes 36 hours of history courses and 9 hours from supporting courses.
Our faculty are passionate about history! Dr. Steven Fratt’s diorama of the “Beaches of Normandy” was recently on display at the 1st Division Museum at Cantigny in Wheaton, IL.
The History major is designed to prepare you for graduate work in history, law, library science, seminary, government work, and careers requiring a strong background in the liberal arts. The major includes studies in U.S. history, European history, and world civilizations. Special courses in church history, military history, and cultural history are available. An emphasis in military history is also available.
At Trinity, you’ll be equipped to think critically and biblically in every area of life as you are challenged to apply your faith to your coursework and classroom conversations. And instead of approaching general education as a checklist of courses to be completed, Trinity’s distinctive educational approach gives you the freedom to choose courses that are most interesting and relevant to you. Working closely with your faculty advisor, you can select from electives to enhance your major, apply toward a minor, create a double major, or simply experience something new. The choices are yours! All along the way, you’ll be cared for and supported, ensuring that you make the most of your college experience.
