Trinity named to Colleges of Distinction list

July 16, 2019
Colleges of Distinction, a national organization that helps prospective students evaluate the effectiveness of undergraduate institutions, has named Trinity International University to its list of colleges and universities for 2019-20. The selection process includes detailed interviews and research for each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts. General education programs, career development, strategic plan, and student satisfaction also receive consideration. Schools must exhibit what the organization calls its Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. “Our staff, faculty, and leadership team are gratified whenever our many efforts to create an excellent student experience are recognized beyond the boundaries of our community,” TIU president Nicholas Perrin said. “This is one such moment.” TIU is one of 20 Colleges of Distinction in Illinois. It earns recognition among colleges in the Midwest, and among Christian colleges. TIU’s education and business programs also received commendations, which are awarded in the form of badges. “Colleges of Distinction doesn’t rank schools, because we know that every student is different in what they need to best learn, grow, and succeed,” chief operating officer Tyson Schritter said. “Instead, we value schools that embrace those differences.” According to the organization’s website, the 371 Colleges of Distinction for 2019-20 “vary in size, cost, location, academic offerings, and more, but they are all distinguished by their commitment to the undergraduate experience.” The program began in 2000 as a way to recognize institutions for their achievements in undergraduate higher education. The distinctions serve as resources for prospective students, parents, and high school counselors.
