Opportunity for debt reduction for current Trinity students and alumni

April 14, 2021
Do you have student debt? Does this debt make you think missionary service is not possible at the moment? The Evangelical Free Church of America, Trinity's affiliate denomination, is making it possible to do missionary service and repay student debt at the same time, through its mission arm, ReachGlobal. EFCA President Kevin Kompelien takes Luke 10:2 as informing this initiative: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” "Those words are extremely true today as we look at the missions opportunities ReachGlobal  has around the world," he said.  "Unfortunately, for some who feel called to go the student debt they have incurred in preparing to go is holding them back.  We would love to see TIU graduates come to serve with ReachGlobal as we invest in disciplemakers to establish the church where the gospel isn’t known." ReachGlobal has about 600 workers all over the globe—Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. It is made up of church planters, baristas, athletes, coaches, actors, artists, filmmakers, youth workers, musicians, teachers, and more. “When the EFCA’s missional arm joins hands with its educational arm, it’s a historical moment," said Trinity President Nicholas Perrin. "We hope and expect that many Trinity students will take advantage of this tremendous opportunity.” This initiative is an express desire to continue building on the EFCA's historical relationship to Trinity by helping those with student debt. ReachGlobal has funds set aside to come alongside students and alumni who will serve with them as missionaries. To that end, it is offering up to $5,000 for two (2)  years of service, and $5,000 more for long-term service. International students and alums going out with ReachGlobal as missionaries could also be eligible for this initiative. This would be case by case. It is possible international students could receive help during their studies and not just post studies. If you want to learn more about ReachGlobal, check out its resources page.
