June 8, 2020
The Center for Bioethics & Human DignityMatthew Eppinette (CBHD) at Trinity International University (TIU) is pleased to announce that Matthew Eppinette, MBA, PhD, has been named Executive Director of the Center. In this transition, Matthew is shedding the title of Interim and fully assuming primary leadership of the Center. Of his appointment, Matthew said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to continue the vital work of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity in this role. CBHD is uniquely positioned to engage the academy, mentor the next generation, and serve the church.” Added Matthew, “I look forward to continuing to work closely with Dr. Michael Sleasman, Director of Bioethics Degree Programs at Trinity Graduate School, to expand the important work of Bioethics at Trinity.” Former Executive Director Paige Cunningham, JD, PhD, expressed her regret at not being able to continue her day-to-day work with CBHD. In light of her ongoing and demanding responsibilities as Interim President of Taylor University, she concluded it was best to end the uncertainty about her potential return. “Matthew Eppinette stepped into the Interim Executive Director position with skill and ‘insider’s’ familiarity with CBHD.” She continued, “It’s important for CBHD to have clear and strong leadership in light of the bioethical challenges that are roaring toward us. Matthew is the right person to do this.” Cunningham also expressed her desire to stay connected with the Center, and, on a personal note, said how much she misses the “CBHD family.” We are grateful for the capable leadership that Matthew has demonstrated in his first eight months with CBHD serving as Interim Director. With his rich experience in the field of bioethics, we are confident that he will continue to lead the Center in “exploring the nexus of biomedicine, biotechnology, and our common humanity.”
