Andrew DeLoach, a Trinity Professor and Director of the Center for Human Rights<\/a>, is presenting at the 25th Annual Federalist Society Faculty Conference.<\/p>\n

Founded by law students in 1982, The Federalist Society now consists of 90,000 individuals\u2014lawyers, law students, scholars, and others who \u201cbelieve and trust that individual citizens can make the best choices for themselves and society.\u201d The organization aims to reform the current legal order by fostering debate on legal topics like individual freedom and the role of the courts.<\/p>\n

The 25th Annual Federalist Society Faculty Conference will take place in Washington, DC in early January. Faculty members, including Trinity Law School\u2019s Andrew DeLoach, will gather for discussions about current legal issues like student loan cancellation and state standing as well as cases like SFFA v Harvard and Biden v Nebraska. Young legal scholars will have opportunities to present their papers, and faculty members will participate in several rounds of \u201c7-Minute Presentations\u201d of works in progress. Professor DeLoach will present his paper \u201cKeepers of Conscience: Originalism, Common Good, and Supervision of Morality in the Law.\u201d<\/p>\n

Professor DeLoach\u2019s history with the Federalist Society and interest in the intersection of religion, human rights, and law is longstanding. After graduating with a BA in Literature from the University of California, San Diego, he attended California Western School of Law in San Diego. As a law student, he competed with the Trial Team and served as Vice President of the Federalist Society.
\nAfter that, he attended and then became a Fellow at the International Academy of Apologetics, Evangelism & Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. From 2009\u20132012, he hosted a radio program discussing Christian apologetics and world religions. Professor DeLoach practiced in civil litigation and appeals for several years before opening his own practice specializing in estate planning and probate.<\/p>\n

As an associate professor at Trinity Law School, his teaching and research interests include human rights and international law; religious freedom; philosophy of law; law and literature; and law, religion, and culture. He teaches courses in International Human Rights; International Law; Constitutional Law; and Jurisprudence. He also oversees the Human Rights track of Trinity Law School\u2019s MLS program, for which he has created and taught courses in International Human Rights Law, Philosophy and Theology of Justice, and The Law of Genocide.<\/p>\n

Professor DeLoach is the Director and Professor of the summer International Human Rights program in The Hague, Netherlands, and Strasbourg, France. He also teaches at Chapman University (M.A. and School of Law) and previously taught in the Department of History and Political Thought at Concordia University, Irvine. He has published articles in the Journal of Christian Legal Thought, Public Discourse, and Modern Reformation, and co-authored a book chapter titled \u201cMyth and Resurrection,\u201d in The Resurrection Fact: Responding to Modern Critics (New Reformation Press, 2016)<\/p>\n

At the conference in January, Professor DeLoach is looking forward to getting feedback on his current paper, insightful discussions about legal topics, and seeing the next generation of lawyers present their work.<\/p>\n
