Please help us welcome guest organist Stephen Self to the console of the Casavant pipe organ in ATO Chapel for a recital at 7:30 pm on Friday, April 22. Admission is free, and seating is “first come, first served.” Dr. Self will perform organ music by Bach, Mendelssohn, Barber, Langlais, Vierne, and other composers—much of it based on familiar hymn tunes.
Dr. Self is Director of Traditional Music at Wayzata Community Church in Wayzata, Minnesota. He retired in 2018 from teaching music at Bethel University in Arden Hills, Minnesota. Self is a frequent recitalist in the Twin Cities area and is often featured on local programs sponsored by the Twin Cities AGO chapter. He is also a solo and collaborative pianist, having recently premiered new works by a variety of composers. He holds the Ph.D. in music history and the D.M.A. in organ performance, and he holds the Fellow certification of the AGO, the organization’s highest performance and educational level.
This recital is part of the Helen Laverne Smith Richard Endowed Organ Recital Series, which beings regional, national, and international guest artists to TIU’s campus for performances on an annual basis.
