OtherThe Big Picture: Wilmington Community Evangelical Church (https://em.wcec.church/home) is searching for a full time Assistant English Pastor/Minister. WCEC is a Chinese-heritage, evangelical church established in 1981, now serving 350 English and Mandarin speaking members on 10 acres in suburban Wilmington, Delaware, a 20-minute drive from the University of Delaware. We are cross-cultural, cross-generational and cross-denominational.
Purpose: Our English Ministry exists to model a healthy Chinese-American evangelical church, with curiosity, optimism and harmony. Our distinctives include creativity, patience, and leadership by consensus.
Position: Assistant English Pastor/Minister, with a compensation package of $70,000-$80,000, including salary and benefits, depending on qualifications.
Role: WCEC is looking for an energetic servant of God, with demonstrated ability to build up the family of God, to share the workload with the English Pastor in ministering to a congregation of about 60 adults and 40 youth.
Relationship: Reports to the English Pastor and works closely with the ministry staff (which includes two Mandarin ministry pastors, a Children’s Director and an administrative assistant).
Education: Prefer Master of Divinity (in hand or in progress) or other relevant graduate degree.
Experience: Ministerial experience in North America and familiarity with Asian culture. Convictions: Affirms WCEC Articles of Faith, Constitution, Mission, and Core Values Character Traits: • Teachable • Self-starter • Relational • Team player • Optimistic
Skills & Qualifications: • Well versed in the scriptures, Old and New Testaments • Experienced in more than one culture. • Experienced in more than one church tradition/denomination. • Experienced in evangelism and discipleship • Able to work with volunteers
Responsibilities: The Assistant Pastor will share responsibility for oversight of the English-speaking congregation with the English Ministry pastor, in accordance with their relative strengths, potentially taking over as EM pastor in 7-10 years. At present, the main ministries are: • Sunday Services at 9:30 a.m. • Youth (7th-12th grades), Sunday 11-12 a.m. and Friday evenings 7-9 p.m. • A variety of midweek small groups. • Community service and events. • Semi-annual offsite retreats. The main pastoral duties include: • maintain healthy intimacy with God • care for, visit with and pay attention to the people • teach and preach God’s word • train, mentor, counsel and lead by example administration of communion, baptisms, weddings and funerals.
