Job Description

We desire to see our youth pastor grow personally, professionally, and spiritually and to function as part of a church ecosystem that supports youth ministry. Thus, we are committed to the following:

Responsibilities

The Youth Pastor is responsible for partnering with parents and the larger church to nurture the holistic discipleship of middle school and high school students at NSCBC.

  • Embrace and implement the NSCBC Vision, Purpose, Culture, and Values in the youth ministry.
  • In conjunction with the Minister of Children and Families (who broadly oversees ministry to emerging generations), implement a coordinated, holistic vision for the discipleship of youth at NSCBC.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with youth and their families and nurture a culture of friendship within the youth group itself.
  • Recruit, disciple, and collaborate with a motivated team of youth and adult leaders who are committed to the discipleship of youth at NSCBC.
  • Structure a youth ministry consistent with the vision of the whole church, including activities such as:
    • Leading and coordinating the Middle School and High School youth programs.
    • Overseeing the volunteer leaders of the youth and middle school small groups.
    • Cultivating a vision for missions and evangelism within our youth.
    • Developing youth by advocating for and cultivating opportunities for service and leadership within the youth ministry, the larger church context, and the surrounding community.
    • Connecting students to the larger church.
    • Connecting students with opportunities for short term cross-cultural experiences.
  • In conjunction with the Minister of Children and Families and other staff members, partner with parents by promoting collaboration in drawing on the collective parenting wisdom that exists in our church, and provide access to parenting tools, skill development, and other resources.
  • Maintain the youth room as an inviting space that enables discipleship.
  • Function as part of the overall ministerial staff to contribute to the broader church direction, vision, and planning.

Abilities

  1. Possesses a calling and passion to disciple youth and families in the church.
  2. Is a humble, continual learner as youth culture and our theology/engagement with it requires changes.
  3. Can connect relationally with teens and preteens including those without a church background, and can foster relationships and community between youth and their peers as well as adults in the church community
  4. Gifted in leadership, communicating vision, administration, relational ministry, and developing & equipping a leadership team. Can communicate with and build appropriate relationships with parents and youth leaders or mentors.
  5. Able to interpret, teach, and apply scripture in a way that connects the gospel to everyday life issues. Can impart a deep faith that our youth can grow into, not grow out of.
  6. Engages with and understands youth culture and diverse parent-youth dynamics.
  7. Highly relational in working with youth and partnering with parents. Communicates effectively with all ages inside and outside the church.
  8. Team builder and a team player with a demonstrated ability to recruit, equip, inspire, and partner with a team of volunteer leaders.
  9. Experienced with ministry in a post-Christian, missional context.
  10. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to partner with other churches and parachurch ministries for the advancement of the Gospel among youth and families.
  11. Confronts ministry challenges and conflicts with biblical wisdom, with an aim towards restoration.

Experience

  1. 3+ years Youth Ministry experience, including leadership, teaching, discipleship, and pastoral care.
  2. Experienced with shaping an intergenerational, discipleship-based Youth Ministry, particularly in a post-Christian context.
  3. Experience relating to teens and their families from a wide variety of family and spiritual backgrounds.

Education

Bachelor’s degree and seminary degree or other significant biblical training required.
