Meet Mt. Zion Church:

Our purpose is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. We accomplish this by pouring out our hearts in prayer, getting strong in the Word, and putting our faith in Jesus into action. The standard for our faith and practice comes from the Bible which is the inspired, inerrant Word of God; it is without error, or fault in all its teaching.

About the Senior Pastor:

The Senior Pastor will be a spirit-filled, teaching shepherd of the Christian faith within Mt. Zion Church with the primary responsibility of studying, preaching, and teaching the Word of God. The Senior Pastor has a burning desire to see people come to salvation in Christ. The Senior Pastor provides pastoral care for all members and ministries and provides administrative leadership in all areas of church life. The Senior Pastor is capable of leading a congregation of 700+.

The Senior Pastor’s Responsibilities include: 

  • Cast vision for the direction of Mt. Zion Church
  • Provide spiritual leadership of the Christian faith in word and action in the total operation of the church
  • Lead church services, including preparing and preaching sermons
  • Articulate the scriptures in an effective and relatable manner
  • Recognize the various gifts-callings of individual members of the body of Christ and encourages and trusts them to establish, lead, and develop ministries within the church that align with biblical standards of faith and practice
  • Provide pastoral care to members and non-members
  • Guide members of the church to strengthen their faith and overcome significant life challenges
  • Conduct special ceremonies such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals
  • Provide leadership to the staff, helping to ensure that each staff member is properly equipped, empowered, and resourced to do his or her job
  • Able to pour into staff and leaders to enable them to lead their ministries effectively and confidently

What You Bring: 

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Senior Pastor:

Education & Experience

  • Seven to ten years of church/ministry experience
  •  At least 5 of those years, in a leadership/Senior Pastor capacity
  • Undergraduate degree – Required
  • Seminary degree – Required
  • Ordination – Strongly preferred
  • Church experience of at least 500 member church

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Corporate Worship Service(s)
      • Provide dynamic and applicable preaching of God’s word on Saturday and Sunday services and special services.
      • Responsible for prayer, preaching, administration of the sacraments, and benediction during the church service.
      • Lead and promote spiritual growth within the church.
      • Shepherd the congregation.
  • Teaching
      • Ensure that the teaching of the church in all ministry areas is consistent with God’s holy word.
      • Develop other capable teachers and preachers of God’s Word within the church.
      • Shepherd staff and their families by discipleship relationships and mentoring relationships.
      • Provide oversight of weddings, funerals, and other special occasions. Includes responsibility for premarital counseling, etc.
  • Vision
      • Cast, develop, initiate, and drive the strategic vision of Mt. Zion Church in partnership with the Church Council and Church Staff.
      • Seek to grow more disciples willing to serve faithfully in ministries to support the growing church.
  • Community Outreach
    • Development of an overall plan of shepherding and visitation of church members.
    • Ensure that the church is cultivating positive relationships within the community in such a way as to assist the advance of the gospel.
    • Do the work of an evangelist.
    • Consistently communicate the salvation message as part of their teaching.
    • Continue to ensure that Mt. Zion always has God’s heart for the hurting.
