McMaster Divinity College invites nominations and applications for a regular, annually renewed appointment as Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology (full-time, ranked).
This scholar should be able to teach a range of classes in Christian theology, including systematic and historical theology, and supervise students at the doctoral level. This scholar must also have a publication record to support their level of seniority. Mid- and senior-level applicants are encouraged to apply, but others will be considered. The start date is July 1, 2024, or soon thereafter. The endowed Howard and Shirley Bentall Chair in Evangelical Thought may be awarded to the appropriate candidate.
McMaster Divinity College, a premier seminary and graduate school located in Hamilton, Ontario, develops effective evangelical Christian leaders for the church, academy, and society. Applicants should have a PhD/ThD or equivalent in a relevant field. Experience in a free church tradition and awareness of the Canadian context are highly desirable. Candidates must be supportive of MDC’s Baptist heritage, be able to sign the MDC statement of faith, and be active in a local church during their time of employment. Teaching responsibilities currently include five one-semester courses per year and dissertation supervision. Collegial and innovative candidates are sought who will be able to teach in MDiv, MTS, MA, DPT, and PhD degree programs. Applicants should have demonstrated proficiency in teaching via multiple modalities (in-person, synchronous online, and asynchronous online) and at graduate level.
Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to the mission of McMaster Divinity College and its evangelical focus, especially sharing the purpose of educating men and women for Christian leadership and ministry at all levels. They should also be considered (or aspire to be) thought leaders in their academic field. Applicants should send to the address below a cover letter, a short statement relating their philosophy of teaching and scholarship to the MDC’s vision and affirmations, a curriculum vitae, and complete contact information for three academic and two personal references. The inclusion of a published article or book written by the applicant, sample syllabi, and teaching evaluations is strongly encouraged. Ours is a merit-based hiring policy, encouraging male and female candidates to apply.
The application process is open until the position is filled. Preliminary interviews will be held at the November 2023 ETS and SBL/AAR meetings in San Antonio, Texas, and on-campus interviews in January/February 2024.
McMaster Divinity College welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
