Job Description

Gateway Community Church is seeking a servant-hearted pastor who will lead our congregation in the areas of worship and discipleship. We have been ministering just outside of Madison in Middleton, WI for nearly 30 years, and we have been excited to see more people joining our church family and growing in their faith. Our aim as a church is to see people transformed by the word of God and the good news of the gospel, and we are looking forward to finding someone who is as passionate about this as we are.
First and foremost, our Associate Pastor will need to be a man of character who is always ready to learn from others, grow through mistakes, and obey God’s word. Though our Associate Pastor will not start as an elder or deacon at Gateway, the character qualifications of 1 Tim. 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, and the pastoral heart of 1 Peter 5:1-5 are pivotal for all leaders at Gateway.
Secondly, we need someone who is gifted to lead worship musically through a variety of genres. We are an intergenerational and relatively diverse church, and so a candidate will need to employ different music styles from multiple eras each Sunday. Training and equipping our musicians to thrive as part of the worship team is vitally important as well.
Lastly, as a Pastor of Discipleship, our candidate will need to be able to teach the word with clarity and enthusiasm. This could take numerous forms depending on the gifts of the individual and what he is passionate about. It could mean teaching Bible classes for adults, leading the youth group, preaching every 6-8 weeks, and/or teaching classes for new attenders and new believers. The Associate Pastor will also organize our small groups and train our small group leaders and teachers.
