Job Description

The Minister of the First Congregational Church of Marion, Inc. must be committed to performing at the highest moral and personal standards as a disciple of Jesus Christ.  The Minister will comply with and perform the duties of Minister in the life of the Church, be in full agreement with Church’s statement of faith and shall use this position to improve and extend the success of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the ministry of the Church. The Minister shall report all activities to the Board of Deacons, and the Executive Council of the Church.  The Minister shall diligently, and faithfully discharge the duties of Minister for the successful operation of the Church and will demonstrate the character traits as found in 1Timothy 3:1-7.

Responsibilities of the Minister of the Church are:

  • To preach, teach and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ
  • To seek the growth of the Church fellowship by actively reaching out to undeveloped populations, unaffiliated individuals and those seeking a personal relationship with Christ
  • To conduct weekly Sunday Worship Services, and any other Worship Services as are requested by the Board of Deacons
  • Officiating at baptisms, weddings, and funerals when requested, unless such officiating would violate conscience or the Church Bylaws
  • Conduct regular visitation for:
    1. Hospitalized
    2. Bereaved and those in mourning
  • Shut ins, home bound and those residing in nursing homes.
  1. Active members
  2. Newcomers to the community, and visitors to the services
  • To keep regular office hours
  • To attend all monthly scheduled meetings of the Executive Council and Board of Deacons. Attend as needed all other elected committee meetings
  • To support Christian Education for all ages
  • Administration of the Church Office and supervision of the daily activities of the Church Office Manager
  • To support community outreach activities and fundraising of the Church
  • To fulfill all other obligations stated in the Bylaws Article IX the Minister
