Job Description

The Director of Next Gen Ministry facilitates our church’s overall ministry to children, youth, parents, and guardians to fulfill our church’s mission of connecting diverse people into compelling Christian community to grow them as disciples of Jesus who reach our neighbors for Christ. The Director of Next Gen Ministry facilitates mentoring relationships across the generations. They prioritize providing leadership to equip volunteers, parents, and guardians in bringing up the next generation in the faith with a special focus on the spiritual formation of children.

Hours: Average of 20 hours/week. Variable schedule, to include Wednesday evenings, Sunday mornings and some Sunday afternoons. Additional evening and weekend hours may be required as needed for specific events. Regular office hours are flexible and may be worked remotely with agreement from the Senior Pastor.

Accountable to Senior Pastor. Works closely with Senior Pastor, Director of Outreach, and Children’s and Youth Ministry Team Leaders.

Part-Time Director of Next Gen Ministry responsibilities:
1. Facilitate intergenerational connections and discipleship: Connect children and youth with adult mentors and prayer partners in the church; Oversee the training, support, and encouragement of mentors; Organize events or ministries that help children, youth, and adults form friendships with one another.
2. Develop and oversee our Children’s and Youth Ministry Team Leaders: Monthly one-on-ones for coaching, planning, and support; Connect Children’s and Youth Ministry to overall mission and strategy of the church; Assist team leaders in recruiting, supporting, and encouraging volunteers for their respective ministries.
3. Equip parents/guardians/grandparents to disciple the children in their lives: Provide “take-home” materials for worship services and family ministries; Oversee groups or courses to train and equip parents / guardians / grandparents; Promote or create resources that encourage family discipleship
4. Coordinate and lead Kids Club (K-6th grade) on Wednesday nights (approximately 10 weeks in fall and 10 weeks in spring) along with our interns and volunteers.
5. Organize children and youth going to Covenant summer camps and/or other youth trips together: Coordinate all details of registration and administration of camps/retreats for our children/youth.
6. Recruit, oversee, and develop interns to work with children or youth ministries.
7. Seek feedback from parents and families on our overall ministry.
8. Participate in weekly staff meetings and collaborate with staff team for the overall ministry of the church.
9. Other tasks as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Qualifications: The Director of Next Gen Ministry will fully support and participate in the ministry of Faith Covenant Church and be in agreement with the Covenant Affirmations and positions of the Evangelical Covenant Church (www.covchurch.org). They will have a passion for spiritual growth in their own life, as well as in the lives of their team, the families they serve, and the children they minister to. They will have strong organizational and administrative skills, paired with the ability to effectively manage, motivate, and encourage a wide variety of volunteers. The ideal candidate has 1 to 3 years of experience in children’s or youth ministry and can demonstrate their ability and giftedness for this position. A degree in ministry or theology is a plus.
