Job Description

Columbia Bible Church is a small church in Kennewick, Washington (southeast part of the state), that has been meeting since 1977. Our church exists to teach the Scriptures, build up believers, and present the Gospel for the glory of God! The area, often referred to as the Tri-Cities, has the feel of a large suburb surrounded by agriculture. There are abundant options for outdoor activities both in the Tri-Cities and within a few hours drive to mountains in all directions!

Requirements:

The intern must have a testimony of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, be at least 18 years of age, accept Sections A-J of our church’s Statement of Faith (www.columbiabible.com/our-beliefs), and have an interest in pursuing pastoral ministry with the ability to teach. If he works with children during his time with us, he must agree to a background check.

Purpose and Benefit:

The purpose of this internship is to help train and equip a man in preparation for pastoral ministry in the context of a local church. Our prayer is that, as a result of his time spent with us, the pastoral intern would grow in his love for the Lord, His Word, and His Church, and that he would be better equipped for the ministry that God has for him. This internship opportunity would seek to provide:

  1. The supportive and loving environment of a local church.
  2. Exposure to a pastor’s daily schedule and responsibilities.
  3. Practical, hands-on ministry and teaching opportunities.
  4. Regular meeting with the pastor for prayer, mentoring, and mutual encouragement.

Duration:

We envision this to be a summer internship (May-August), but we can be flexible if necessary.

Compensation:

This is expected to be a paid internship. Compensation commensurate with intern’s experience and situation.

Hourly Requirements:

This is intended to be a full time position, although specific hours are flexible depending on specific ministry opportunities.

Internship Overview:

For the purposes of this internship, the intern will report to the pastor. A planned schedule will be composed which will establish a routine for the intern to be involved in the life of our church and ministry, and for him to also have time to be refreshed. Our desire is that this time will be beneficial and edifying for the intern as he prepares for the ministry that God has for him!

Specific ministry involvement will depend on intern’s gifts and desire, and the ministry need, but general ideas would be:

  1. Regular meetings with the pastor for prayer and discussion about the Bible, theology, and ministry.
  1. Opportunities for teaching in the worship service, and leading/participating in classes and small groups during the week.
  1. Evangelism and outreach.
  1. Involvement in worship services and pastoral care opportunities.
  1. Administrative tasks.
  1. Attendance at leadership and committee meetings.

How to Apply:

Please submit your resume, testimony, a brief statement about why you desire to do a pastoral internship, and at least two references to Pastor Jonathan Smith at [email protected].
