Job Description

The Pastor of Children’s Ministries at Brookside is a special role, where being an educator, event planner, and pastor all intersect. Come join us in this kid and gospel-centered work!

This role is so much more than assigning curriculum to classrooms – a person who is energized by this role loves using their education background to tailor basic curriculum to be so much better than what they’ve been given. They can’t help but invent what ‘could be’ vs. only implementing an assignment handed to them.

When a conversation comes up about child development and age appropriate learning, their heart flutters a little, because they truly love putting the puzzle together with which activities, language and concepts are best for each age group to really learn about Jesus and understand the gospel. Their creativity extends to imagining events outside of Sunday programming, where the entire family can learn, celebrate and worship. This is when they wear their Event Planner hat & it’s an important (and probably very fun & fanciful) one!

To thrive in this position, they have a tender heart for the children of our church to know the love and saving grace of our Savior, but don’t just stop at the children. A Children’s Ministries Pastor knows that relationships and partnership with the entire family is a crucial piece. They jump right in to develop a connection with every parent or guardian, learning their names, praying for them, and walking this road of shepherding kids together. They may have to deliver tough news to a parent about their child, but they don’t shrink back from this, knowing these conversations are valuable growth opportunities for all involved, and they are worth it.

Brookside’s Pastor of Children’s Ministries is a very visible leadership role – this person will be the one to make the call when things get sticky (sometimes quite literally), so they need to be a great communicator, fast thinker, flexible, confident decision maker and the well-being and safety of the staff and children are of utmost importance. They are truly our ring leader of this adorable and beautiful chaos.

Fair warning – hands will get dirty in this position! Wiping away tears or delivering an emergency supply of goldfish to a classroom isn’t below this leader. If help is needed, they’re ready and willing to get in there for the sake of the mission.

The Pastor of Children’s Ministry has direct reports and volunteers, who look to them for guidance and leadership. So, as much as they love shepherding our littlest congregants in their faith, they also love empowering adult staff and volunteers in living out their gifting in Children’s Ministry.
