Job Description

The Senior Pastor is responsible to lead and shepherd the congregation with the goal of equipping them to become mature believers through preaching, teaching of the Word of God, and prayer.

We are seeking a Senior Pastor who can relate with our diverse, multi-cultural congregation and their families and friends through biblical preaching, sound teaching, and real-life application to help us navigate the many challenges we face in our daily lives. We are looking for a candidate who has a vision and strong desire to reach out to nearby international students, scholars, and professionals and help these individuals to grow closer to Christ.

A requirement for the Senior Pastor is that he is in agreement with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) doctrinal statement (https://www.efca.org/sof) and is committed to strong expository preaching. All candidates must be willing to be ordained in the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), or have their credentials transferred to the EFCA denomination if already otherwise ordained.

Our preferred candidate should be married and have a healthy Christian home. If the Pastor is married, the Pastor’s wife is strongly encouraged to actively participate in our church’s ministry and outreach.

Candidates must possess at least a bachelor’s degree from a Bible college or university in pastoral ministry/biblical studies, although a master’s degree from a seminary in pastoral training or MDiv is preferred.

Preferred candidates should have five or more years of pastoral experience. He should have experience and be involved in all pertinent phases of ministry, including worship, preaching, counseling, bible study / prayer meeting, and church administration as well as participation with the Evangelical Free Church’s Great Lakes District and partnership with other local ministries. He also should understand and be sensitive to Asian and / or Chinese immigrant culture.

Regular pastoral duties include:

  • Sermon preparation and teaching / preaching the Word of God on Sunday Service.
  • Participate in overall worship including planning, coordinating, and possibly leading worship sessions.
  • Coordinating or leading Prayer Meetings / Bible Studies / Small Group (twice a month).
  • Community engagement with international students / scholars / community particularly around University Campuses nearby, to build relationship and winning unsaved to Christ.
  • Disciple others to further spiritual growth of the church body.
  • Provide counseling (e.g., premarital / marital) as needed.
  • Regularly visiting members and attenders.
  • Providing leadership and vision with the board for the church.
  • Perform wedding, funerals, and other services.

The Pastor position is negotiable for either a full-time or a part-time bi-vocational role.
