Group Connections for Spring 2008

Groups are a terrific way to share, grow, relate, and heal. The Counseling Center has designed these helping experiences with trained leaders in each group. Share this information with those who might benefit from these resources. Groups are first made available to the Trinity community and as space permits, groups are open to others associated with area churches.

The intent of these "theme" groups is to identify common experiences, discover the encouragement of community, and to stimulate learning and formation as the Spirit does his work. Short-term groups do not replace "therapy" if that is what is needed. Groups can offer great help to more students and staff through guided discussion, reflection, and support. The informal, interactive format and experience is a natural fit for college and university students. Please spread the word and encourage appropriate referrals.

The counseling center is offering a variety of groups this semester:

Letting Go: Grieving through the loss of what could have been

This is a group for those who desire to work through the conflicted feelings surrounding loss. Steps include accepting the reality of the loss, working through the pain of grief, and adjusting to life with the loss. The hope is to find meaning, growth, and healing through the experience. Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

Song of Solomon

Whether we are single, dating or married, God has laid out His plan for intimacy in Scripture.  This group will help us learn how to put God's plan for intimacy into practice.  Touching on such topics as attraction, courtship, sex, conflict and romance, this group will allow singles and couples to explore how to apply God's plans to current and future relationships. Mondays 4:00-6:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

Calming the Storm

Learn to ride the emotional waves that tend to drive us off course.  This group will give you anchors to deal with frustration and anger in healthy ways.  Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

International Student Luncheon

International Student Luncheon is a unique group designed to offer a comfortable and relaxing place for international students to fellowship amidst the hectic academic schedule.  In addition to fellowship, the group also seeks to address issues that may arise from living in a foreign country.  Some of the issues that will be covered during the semester include stress management, cultural adjustment, and interpersonal communication. Group members are encouraged to bring their lunch to the meeting.  Wednesdays 11:00-12:15 p.m. Click here to sign up.

Going Deep

The goal of this group is to allow you to experience deeper and more intimate relationships by seeking to understand both self and others while being understood more clearly. Topics: trust, self-awareness, accurate understanding of others, assertiveness and feedback. Thursdays 4:30-6:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

AHA

Attaining Healthy Attachments (AHA) is a safe place for women to learn how to develop healthy relationships with men.  Female facilitators will help the group members take an honest look at themselves by highlighting topics such as self-esteem, identity, and boundaries in order to promote intimate, REAL relationships with significant others. Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

Freedom: A Group for Men

Freedom is a safe place to fight the dangerous battle for sexual purity with fellow brothers in Christ.  Within the confidential walls of Freedom, men will explore the deeper issues surrounding their sexual purity, make deep and lasting friendships, connect heart knowledge with head knowledge about Scriptures dealing with sexual purity, and bear one another's burdens through prayer, confession, and accountability.  Today is the day to begin your journey to freedom.  Mondays 6:30-8:00 p.m. Click here to sign up.

All groups require a free individual orientation and assessment screening. There will be a one-time fee of $25.00 for each semester of group involvement. This fee is waived for students who have already been clients at the counseling center for the current year. Sign up to participate by calling the counseling center. Space will be limited. Director of Chapel David Whited has authorized chapel credit for college students who join in these group experiences.

Questions or comments: call x4067 or from off campus at 847.317.4067. Click here to sign up.
