students enrolled including, in the undergraduate programs,
more than 800 traditional and nearly 300 nontraditional students.
The Divinity, Graduate, Law, and extension programs serve
more than 1,500 students. Trinity International University
draws upon multiple strengths to offer relevant academic programs
in Florida.
Founded by the Evangelical Free Church in 1897, Trinity International
University's special mission is to provide excellence in academics
- as well as preparation for ministry and professions - all
within the context of a Christian worldview and a Christian
community. Trinity has a rich legacy that reaches back to
the end of the 19th century beginning as a Bible institute.
It is the result of the merger of two Scandinavian immigrant
church groups which began schools to train their ministers
and missionaries. The two groups were the Norwegian-Danish
Free Church Association and the Swedish Evangelical Free Church
of America. Ultimately, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
was formed through the merger of the two groups. Later, in
1960, Trinity College, a four year Christian liberal arts
college, was formed to operate alongside of the seminary.
There is also much history in South Florida when it concerns
the University. Established as a Bible Institute in 1949,
Miami Christian College became a four year Bible college in
1962. In 1989, an affiliation between Miami Christian College
and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School was established that
lasted until January, 1993 when through an acquisition-merger
Miami Christian College became Trinity College at Miami, a
branch campus of Trinity College, Deerfield, Illinois. With
the beginning of the year 1995 a university system was formed
through the inclusion and creation of four schools -- Trinity
College, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Trinity Graduate
School, and Trinity Law School.
