1. How long will it take me to complete the MACP program?
Depending upon your course load per semester, the program can take anywhere from 3-4 years to complete. This includes your courses and the internship requirement for your specific concentration.

2. Is the MACP program in an accelerated format?
Our MACP program is not accelerated but follows the traditional, semester-based format. However, classes are conveniently held on weekday evenings and weekends.

3. What is the difference between the Mental Health Counseling and the Guidance & Counseling concentrations in the MACP program?
The Mental Health Counseling concentration fulfills the academic requirements and prepares you for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida, while the Guidance & Counseling concentration fulfills the academic requirements and prepares you for certification as a School Guidance Counselor in the Florida state school system.

4. What profession(s) does the Mental Health Counseling concentration prepare me for?
Once you graduate from the MACP program with the Mental Health Counseling concentration, you are prepared to complete the remaining steps of the Florida State licensure requirements (see more information on the licensure requirements listed below). Upon receiving your licensure, you can apply for positions as a therapist in a hospital, private practice, community mental health center, church, etc.

5. Once I complete the MACP program, with the Mental Health Counseling concentration, what else must I do in order to obtain my Florida licensure as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)?
If you are interested in licensure (even before graduation), you should call (850) 245-4474, or request in writing, a copy of the licensure requirements from the following address:

Department of Health
Board of Clinical Social Work Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling Medical Quality Assurance
4052 Bold Cypress Way
Bin # CO8
Tallahassee, Florida 32399-3258

Individual eligibility must be verified periodically through careful review of state licensure regulations which are subject to change.

6. If I choose the Mental Health Counseling concentration, what will be required of me to fulfill the internship requirements while in the program?
You must complete a minimum of a three semester internship, with at least 25 hours per week. Some of these hours may need to be during the day time, and so you may have to adjust your regular employment schedule.
