Legal Obligation

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), as amended, requires that you, as a Trinity International University student, be advised of your rights concerning your education records and of certain categories of public information which the University has designated “directory information.” It is Trinity International University (TIU) policy to be fully and fairly in compliance with the Act.

Your rights under FERPA

FERPA for Students—FERPA governs and protects students’ rights to their individual educational records. The primary rights protected under FERPA are:

  • Students’ rights to review and inspect their educational records;
  • Students’ rights to have their educational records amended or corrected;
  • Students’ rights to control disclosure of certain portions of their educational records
FERPA for Parents—FERPA refers to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, also called the Buckley Amendment. The Act protects the privacy of a student’s education record by limiting access to information that is classified as “non-directory.”

FERPA for Employees—Trinity International University is legally and ethically obligated to protect the confidentiality of students’ records.  It is Trinity International University (TIU) policy to be fully and fairly in compliance with the Act.
