Academic Dean Don McConnell Speaks at Local Churches Trinity Law School's Academic Dean, Don McConnell, recently spoke at two local churches—Rolling Hills Covenant Church in Rolling Hills Estates and Taft Avenue Evangelical Free Church in Orange, California.
At Rolling Hills Covenant Church's Sanctity of Life Service on February 4, 2006, Dean McConnell spoke on the biblical basis for the sanctity of life and presented an argument against abortion. "In both the Old and New Testament, we find that God created humans beings in His image. As a result, the way we treat humans either honors or dishonors God. . . . Humans have human offspring. These offspring are alive until they die—they do not transition from being dead matter to being alive at some point. So embryonic humans are live humans—not mere 'potential life.' They are entitled to moral status, including protection from intentional homicide." Dean McConnell addressed the issue of embryonic stem cell research at Taft Avenue Evangelical Free Church on May 21, 2006. He described the various types of stem cell research, explained their pros and cons, and argued that, based on humans being created in God's image, embryonic human life is sacred from the moment it comes into existence. The Dean also offered responses to the major arguments of embryonic stem cell research advocates.
