Professors Hirsen and Hawkins Speak to Audience of Three Hundred at DaVinci Code Seminar
On April 27, 2006, Trinity Law and Graduate School hosted a seminar titled "The Da Vinci Code Controversy: What You Need to Know." The event featured bestselling author, news analyst, and Trinity Law School professor James Hirsen, along with Trinity Graduate School professor and Apologetics.com panelist Craig Hawkins. Approximately 300 people were in attendance, and the presentations by Professors Hirsen and Hawkins were well received.
Hirsen focused his analysis on the marketing strategy of the film alongside the many obvious inaccuracies in its dealing with history. Hawkins addressed the theological flaws of the Da Vinci Code story and addressed the prevalence of quasi-pagan beliefs—goddess worship, nature worship, gnosticism—which infuse many works of popular fiction. A question-answer session followed the discussion. All around, the evening provided those in attendance with a chance to interact with renowned faculty and the opportunity to sharpen their own abilities to address controversial works of popular culture.
