Transfer Credit

You may receive credit for studies taken at fully accredited graduate-level institutions when such work parallels courses listed in our catalog, and after you successfully complete a full semester of academic work at Trinity Graduate School. We must have official transcripts of your previous work showing satisfactory grades in the courses to be considered.

Transfer credit is not given for undergraduate studies and is usually not granted for course work taken at nonaccredited graduate schools. Also, if you have taken graduate-level course work but applied it to your undergraduate degree, Trinity Graduate School cannot grant you transfer credit for that work. To be considered for transfer credit, the course grade must normally be a "B-" or better from an accredited graduate level program.

Maximum transfer credits allowed for each program are based on the program's residency requirement.

For the Master of Arts programs in Bioethics and in Communication and Culture, 24 hours must be taken through TIU course work, of which a minimum of 3 hours must be taken on the Deerfield or Davie (Florida) campus. A maximum of 6 hours may be considered for transfer credit.

For the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program, 24 hours must be taken on the Davie campus of TIU. A maximum of 24 hours may be considered for transfer credit. Only 12 hours of the concentration (i.e., Counseling Psychology course work) may be transferred to TGS.

Regardless of the amount of course work that you may have taken elsewhere, you must fulfill the minimum residency requirement for your program at Trinity Graduate School.

If you have already completed a master's degree at another institution, possible transfer credit will be limited to a maximum of 50 percent of the total credits required for the shorter degree.

If you wish to receive transfer credit for work done at another school, you should contact the Director of Records of Trinity Graduate School to discuss the details of your situation. Transfer of credit is not automatic; it is handled only when you request it.

Advanced Substitutes

If you have taken undergraduate courses that are clearly parallel to required courses in your program at Trinity Graduate School, you may modify your program by way of Advanced Substitutes. This policy allows you to build on, rather than duplicate, studies that you have already completed. Advanced substitute courses are to be approved in advance by the Academic Dean's Office.

“The faculty spend significant time, in and out of the classroom, preparing students to successfully enter the teaching profession.”
