Change of Program (COP)

It is possible that after you enroll you will decide to pursue a different program. If you wish to make such a change, please carefully follow these guidelines:

Be sure that this is what you really want to do. It could be that your present program is best for you, or that there is another program which you have not yet examined. Therefore, you should consult with members of the faculty and/or an Admissions Counselor before you apply for a change.

Please be aware that admission into your present program is not a guarantee of admission into another program. Our programs have varying admission requirements and you may not have the necessary requirements for the program that you are considering. Consult the current catalog for the admission requirements for your proposed new program.

Before the Admissions Committee will consider your application for a COP, you must complete at least one semester of studies at Trinity Graduate School (10 semester hours or more). The committee will wait to make a decision until your first semester grades are reported.

If you decide to change your program of study, you must submit a COP application with the appropriate signatures to the Admissions Office. Applications are available from the Admissions Office. You must also provide us with a brief statement concerning your reasons for wanting to make this change.

You may submit a COP application any time during the year. The official date of your entry into a new program is dependent upon the date when you submit the application, rather than upon when the Admissions Committee makes its decision. Our deadline is the Friday of the fifth (5th) week of each semester. If you submit your COP by this date, and it is approved by the Committee, your admission into the new program will be made retroactive to the beginning of that semester. On the other hand, if you submit your COP after the fifth week of a semester (or if all required credentials are not in your file until after the fifth week), you will automatically be considered for admission into the new program effective with the beginning of the next semester.

If you change programs, it is possible to retain your current faculty advisor. However, if there is a faculty member in your new department whom you would like to have as your advisor, please put this request in writing on the COP form. Although we cannot guarantee that we will be able to honor all such requests, we will certainly give them careful consideration.

If your COP is approved, you will be subject to the catalog which is current at the time of your initial enrollment in the new program, rather than the catalog which was in effect at the time of your original enrollment at Trinity Graduate School. Failure to recognize this policy at the time of your COP could result in your needing to fulfill additional graduation requirements beyond what you expected.

If you have any questions about COP procedures, the advisability of certain programs for you, or your qualifications for a particular program or programs, please make an appointment to discuss your situation with an Admissions Counselor.

If your COP is not approved by the Admissions Committee, you may appeal the decision in writing to the Director of Admission within ninety (90) days after you received notice of the Admissions Committee decision.
