Areopagus Symposium

The Areopagus Symposium is an annual spring gathering of religious leaders and practitioners in the greater Chicago area.  Hosted by the School of Biblical and Religious Studies and Trinity Graduate School, the symposium is conceived as a place where exchanges on issues pertaining to religion and culture can openly be debated.  In a desire to engage culture, these exchanges hope to contribute toward an awareness of various religious views addressing important topics such as politics, human rights, the environment, cultural and religous values and peace.

Two Perspectives on Religion and Peace in the Twenty-First Century

Trinity Graduate School and the School of Biblical and Religious Studies at Trinity International University will host the 2009 Areopagus Symposium on Wednesday, 1 April at 7:00 p.m. CST.  In a world where tensions among cultures has increased due in part to the globalization and immigration respect for religious other is critical and should be mutual for in order for there to be sustained peace among people.  This year's symposium will focus on the issue of religion and peace by attempting to respond to questions of how religion can contribute to peace and what religions say about peace.  The two discussants will represent Islam and Christianity.

Two Perspectives on Religion and Politics in the Twenty-First Century

Trinity Graduate School and the School of Biblical and Religious Studies at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois sponsored the first annual Areopagus Symposium on Tuesday, 1 April at 7:00 p.m. CST in the AT Olson Chapel.  In this year of presidential politics, our first symposium appropriately addressed the issue of religion and politics. Our two guests represented an evangelical perspective (Dr. Tom Atchison, Fox Valley Church) and a Mormon perspective (Bishop Dale Prows, Buffalo Grove Ward 1) of faith in relation to political views. Dr. Michael Reynolds, pastor of New Life Celebration Church, responded. Dr. Michael Cooper moderated.  For more information about the 2008 Symposium, click Areopagus Symposium
