Psychology Major
Psychology |
The Psychology major is a foundational degree for students who desire a career in any number of fields that require an empirical understanding of people and how they relate interpersonally. By studying psychology, students gain a greater understanding of the emotions, thoughts, and actions of others. This, in turn, provides a helpful perspective on the challenges and problems that complicate life and relationships.
The Psychology major provides opportunities to study the development and functioning of children, adolescents, and adults from a distinctly Christian worldview. Course offerings include Interpersonal Skills Training, Personality Theories, Abnormal Psychology, Psychology of Learning, Child and Adolescent Psychology, Psychology of Addiction, Human Sexuality, Life Assessment, and Integration of Psychology and the Christian Faith.
A unique feature of this program is its integration of biblical and faith perspectives with an examination of scientific findings and theories of psychology. This approach equips students for professions that expect graduates to have an undergraduate education in psychology, while simultaneously allowing students to explore a faith-based approach to the field.
Benefits
The graduate of this program gains insight not only into the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral effects of human personality, but also into the significance of people's moral and spiritual lives as well. The Psychology Department includes the graduate program faculty who are highly trained and experienced in their profession and who can advise students on graduate degree programs in the field.
