Miriam L. Charter, PhD

Miriam L. Charter is associate professor of Educational Ministries at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She earned her BEd at University of Calgary, her MDiv at Canadian Theological Seminary, and her PhD at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

During the past decade Dr. Charter has been involved in pastoral ministry and academic administration, having established and directed a branch of Canadian Theological Seminary in Toronto, Canada. Prior to that she served for fourteen years on the faculty of an underground seminary, providing pastoral education for leaders in the persecuted church in Eastern and Central Europe. Miriam's involvement was primarily in the area of discipleship and teaching among women in countries that, at that time, were under the domination of communism (Romania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland). In 1992 she returned to North America to attend Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, doing doctoral studies in the field of Education. In 1995 she went to southern Russia to study Russian and do her doctoral research. She received her PhD from Trinity in 1997.

Miriam's interests include the encouragement of theological education in limited-access nations. She is on the Board of Directors of Overseas Council Canada and has a concern for the development of pastoral leadership in Quebec and the French-speaking world.
