Mosaic Learning Community
"Trinity is the ideal place for ministry training and preparation. In my context, seminaries are known as cemeteries, but this place has living water. It's not heaven, but it will prepare you to lead a lot of people there."
- Charlie Dates
The Mosaic Learning Community seeks to embody Christian unity through the biblical mission of reconciliation with God and others. It is a community that encourages cultural intersection, embraces shared insight, and equips Christian leaders for world impact.
- Intersection: MLC encourages the intersection of diverse cultures, lives, and thoughts within the context of Christian unity.
- Insight: MLC embraces theological and cultural insights that emerge from interactions among ethnically diverse Christian communities.
- Impact: MLC equips Christian leaders to impact their world by fulfilling the biblical mission of reconciliation with God and others.
MLC is composed of twenty-four to thirty students. It is led by a small team of faculty, staff, and doctoral students. Each year, twelve to fifteen new students are invited to join MLC.

"For more than fifteen years I have had the privilege of being associated with Trinity Evangelical Divinity School... Our youngest son is a graduate of TEDS and now serves as a Sr. Pastor in the Chicago area... I am high on TEDS! I greatly value the commitment and passion of the school and its faculty to help shape the heads and the hearts of the future leaders of the church with a solid biblical framework and a passion for Christ and His Cause."
- Dr. Crawford W. Loritts, Jr., Speaker, Author, Sr. Pastor, Fellowship Bible Church, Roswell, Georgia
The following events are planned by the Mosaic Learning Community in order to facilitate the growth of the community, foster learning relationships, and provide opportunities for discussion:
- Retreat: At the beginning of the fall semester, members of MLC will gather for a weekend retreat to introduce new students into the group and set the pace for the upcoming year.
- Formation Group: Masters of Divinity students are required to take part in a formation group for at least one year; MA students are invited to join as well. Each week during the semester, students and professors gather for discussion, personal sharing, and prayer. MLC will be your formation group for two years; after that, you will rotate into other formation groups, during which you can share what you have learned with the broader campus community.
- Speakers: Special guests will be brought in to speak to the formation group throughout the year. Mentoring: During the first year, each student will be mentored by another student or member of the leadership team. During the second year, these students then serve as peer-mentors to first-year students.
- Local Connections: MLC will assist racial minorities to find and connect with local churches in the Chicago area, as well as find pastoral mentors and resource persons.
MLC would be ideal for those who:
- Want to explore racial and cultural identity within the Christian context
- Are passionate for developing authentic intercultural friendships and ministry partnerships and
- Are preparing for leadership within a multi-ethnic community, a ministry related to racial reconciliation, and/or working with minority populations within majority contexts
