Diversity and Mission

Our conference will focus on the ways in which gender, ethnicity, race, social class, and denominational diversity are experienced and addressed within missionary institutions and through current mission practices. Numerous presentations will highlight the experiences and practices of women in mission. The involvements and experiences of African Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans will be featured. The ways in which mission practices adjust to denominational or doctrinal divides between Pentecostals and non-Pentecostals, for example, will be addressed. The challenges of working together on multi-ethnic mission teams will be analyzed. Other themes may also be treated in parallel tracks. For example, this year we will have one parallel track focused on Diverse Approaches in Christian-Muslim Encounters.
In recent years we have averaged over 220 registered participants. As in past years we expect to feature multiple parallel tracks, with many exciting presentations to attend and choose between.
Mission leaders and scholars who wish to present a paper fitting our announced theme should contact Robert Priest ( rpriest@tiu.edu ) with brief biographical information and a presentation title -- along with any accompanying explanations. Information on scheduled presentations can be perused here.
Each year the EMS publishes a volume including many of the best papers prepared from these meetings. If you wish to see a list of these prior publications, click here. And again the following guidelines should be followed by those wishing to submit their papers for possible publication in the annual volume, which this year will feature "Diversity in Evangelical Missions."
