Urban Mission/Short-Term Missions
February 26, 2011 (8:15 - 4:30)
Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois
Call for Papers: The EMS will focus on Urban Mission in 2011, but our region will also feature other tracks. A variety of themes (short-term missions, sex-trafficking and missions, race and missions, "health and wealth" gospel, etc.) may also be included. If you have a paper/presentation you would like to bring, please contact rpriest@tiu.edu with your proposed title, as well as brief information about yourself and what you bring to this project.
It will not be until the fall of 2010 that we will actively be putting together the program for this conference, but a web page will be maintained listing some of the planned presentations as they are confirmed.
Presenters & presentations/papers for Feb 26, 2011
Our conference will focus on the ways in which gender, ethnicity, culture, and race are experienced and addressed within missionary institutions and through current mission practices. The involvements and experiences of women, African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and white Americans will be featured. One room will be devoted to Spanish language presentations, and there will also be a parallel track focused on Diverse Approaches in Christian-Muslim Encounters.
Registration includes lunch and snacks, a free educational DVD on Short-Term Missions and a free copy of the Trinity Journal theme issue honoring the life and legacy of Paul Hiebert.
When registering you have the option of registering at a discount if you simultaneously pay discounted membership with the Evangelical Missiological Society (EMS). EMS members receive "The Occasional Bulletin" and a copy of the annual EMS book (which is based on the best papers from the prior year's conferences). For a list of EMS annual books, click here. Next year's publication will be on "Diversity and Mission."
If you are a professor or mission leader in your church, I would encourage you to print out the attached publicity brochure and post it where colleagues, students, or other interested parties can learn of this important event.
