New Testament Programs

Students who are interested in focused study on the New Testament have a number of degree options at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School:

MA / New Testament

The Master of Arts concentration in New Testament (MA/NT) is designed for those who desire intensive study in the New Testament and intend to pursue an academic career path. This program is especially appropriate for those contemplating a teaching career in a Bible college or Christian liberal arts college and need an intermediate degree in anticipation of doctoral studies.

Master of Divinity 

Trinity's Master of Divinity (MDiv) is intended for those pursuing professional ministry or an academic career in biblical or theological disciplines. This program prepares you for ministry through the integration of biblical content, cultural awareness, ministerial skills, and practical experience. Brought together, these four areas provide a foundation on which you can build a ministry unique to your context and calling. MDiv students choose one of five foci that consists of six hours of study in a particular area, with the suggestion that twelve hours of free electives are coordinated with this area. The Research Ministry focus would provide up to 18 hours to focus on New Testament studies beyond the MDiv core requirements.

MA / Christian Studies with significant NT electives

The MA/CS purposes to provide a basic understanding of Christianity for general educational purposes. Trinity’s MA/CS program draws from the breadth of the curriculum requiring substantive study in biblical, theological, and historical and global areas, combined with a significant number of hours in the student’s area of interest.

Master of Theology, New Testament Concentration

The Master of Theology (ThM) program is designed for students who have earned the Master of Divinity after having earned a 4-year undergraduate bachelor’s degree. The Master of Theology program allows a student to concentrate on course work in one field of specialization, developing a high level of competency in that area. This program is well-suited for those who wish to teach, pursue doctoral studies, develop more finely-tuned ministry skills, or further their biblical/theological understanding.

PhD (Theological Studies), New Testament Concentration

The Doctor of Philosophy (Theological Studies) Program is an advanced graduate degree primarily intended to prepare students for academic teaching and research in the fields of Church History/Historical Theology, New Testament Exegesis and Theology, Old Testament Exegesis and Theology, and Systematic Theology. Students choose one of these fields as a major concentration in which they will take comprehensive examinations and write a dissertation.
