Master of Arts Concentrations

Concentration in Biblical and Near Eastern Archaeology and Languages

In pursuing the Master of Arts concentration in Biblical and Near Eastern Archaeology and Languages students will find the opportunity for integrated study in the disciplines of archaeology and biblical studies. This concentration is not designed for those entering pastoral ministry but for those who desire an intermediate degree before pursuing doctoral studies in archaeology, Near Eastern studies, or ancient history, or before pursuing doctoral studies that would enable them to teach at a Bible college or Christian liberal arts college.

Concentration in Christian Studies

The MA/CS purposes to provide a basic understanding of Christianity for general educational purposes. Trinity’s MA/CS program draws from the breadth of the curriculum requiring substantive study in biblical, theological, and historical and global areas, combined with a significant number of hours in the student’s area of interest. The program is particularly suited for Christians desiring to better understand God’s revelation to humanity in the biblical and theological context of orthodox historic Christianity and who are engaged in nonchurch-related vocations or for those seeking a general theological degree to accompany a specialized master’s degree. As a seminary degree, its particular concern is to relate Christian studies to the work of the church.

Concentration in Christian Thought

The Master of Arts concentration in Christian Thought (MA/CT) is designed for the person who wishes to pursue a career in college or university teaching and who will need a research degree that provides competency in more than one of the theological disciplines. Due to the flexibility possible as students select a specific course of study, those interested in this concentration should carefully consider the variety of options and emphases.

This interdisciplinary program provides intensive study in any two of the following areas: biblical and systematic theology, bioethics, Christianity and contemporary culture, church history and the history of Christian thought, and philosophy of religion. In the Christian Thought concentration you will emphasize one of these areas while taking cognate studies in a second field.

Concentration in Church History

The Master of Arts concentration in Church History (MA/CH) provides specialized study in the area of the history of the Christian church to those desiring graduate work in this field, as well as to those who intend to teach history or church history in Christian secondary schools, Bible colleges, and theological seminaries. It also serves as an intermediate step toward doctoral study in a related area.

Concentration in Evangelism

In order to meet the special needs of students who already possess some theological background and desire concentrated study in the area of evangelism, Trinity offers a Master of Arts with a concentration in Evangelism (MA/E). In pursuing this program, students will become well-equipped for the task of communicating the historic Christian faith, as well as training others to do the same.

Concentration in History of Christianity in America

The Master of Arts concentration in the History of Christianity in America (MA/HCA) provides specialized study in American Christianity to those desiring graduate work in this field, as well as to those who intend to teach history or church history in Christian secondary schools, Bible colleges, and theological seminaries. It also serves as an intermediate step toward doctoral study in a related area.

Concentration in Intercultural Studies

With the Master of Arts concentration in Mission, students will be prepared to embark on the unique tasks of Christian mission, which include the sensitive bridging of cultures, the meaningful communication of the faith, and the establishment of vital national leadership in churches, as well as church-related institutions. This program can serve to prepare teachers of mission, as well as those who desire studies in overseas ministry.

Concentration in New Testament

The Master of Arts concentration in New Testament (MA/NT) is designed for those who desire intensive study in the New Testament and intend to pursue an academic career path. This program is especially appropriate for those contemplating a teaching career in a Bible college or Christian liberal arts college and need an intermediate degree in anticipation of doctoral studies.

Concentration in Old Testament and Semitic Languages

In pursuing the Master of Arts concentration in Old Testament and Semitic Languages (MA/OT) students will find the opportunity for concentrated study of the Old Testament, Semitics, Near Eastern languages and literature, and the cultural background of the Jewish people. This concentration is not designed for those entering pastoral ministry but for those who desire an intermediate degree before pursuing doctoral studies that would enable them to teach at a Bible college or Christian liberal arts college.

Concentration in Philosophy of Religion

The Master of Arts in Philosophy of Religion (MA/PR) is designed primarily for the following: (a) to enable the student with previous work in philosophy to do concentrated work in philosophy of religion and apologetics from a Christian perspective; (b) to equip men and women for ministry to the collegiate mind whether from the pulpit or in student work and develop a concern for evangelical scholarship in this discipline; (c) to prepare evangelicals as teachers of philosophy, apologetics, and related disciples; (d) to contribute to graduate education by providing Christian perspectives in preparation for doctoral studies elsewhere.
