Miriam Stark Parent, PhD

Miriam Parent is chair of the Pastoral Counseling and Psychology Department and associate professor of pastoral counseling and psychology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with joint appointment at Trinity Graduate School in Deerfield, Illinois. She has been teaching at Trinity since 1993.

 

Dr. Parent came to Trinity from Liberty University, where she taught for four years. She has also worked at Word of Life Bible Institute and Liberty University and has worked as a therapist in a variety of contexts. Dr. Parent continues a limited private practice doing individual and marital counseling, as well as diagnostic evaluations and assessments. She also enjoys speaking in women's groups and church retreats on a variety of Bible and counseling topics.

 

Dr. Parent earned the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Rosemead Graduate School of Biola University, the Master of Arts in Counseling from Liberty University, and the Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from The King's College.

 

Dr. Parent is a licensed clinical psychologist. Her areas of interest include professional ethics, diagnosis and treatment planning, stress management, women's issues, and spiritual formation. She is a member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the American Counseling Association, and the Christian Association for Psychological Studies. Parent's articles have been published in periodicals such as Christian Counseling Today, Professional Psychology, and American Journal of Pastoral Counseling.

 

Dr. Parent is married with two adult stepchildren. She currently resides in Wauconda, Illinois. In her spare time, she enjoys travel, teaching Bible studies, reading, music, and spending time with family.
