Student Life Center Construction Update
Updates on the construction progress for the Student Life Center:
- Last week, interior demolition of walls and ceilings began in lower Melton.
- During this week, the exterior footings were poured for the foundation walls, work began on the elevator pit, and windows and passage ways are being cut out of the existing foundation wall. The pieces of foundation that are being cut out will be dropped into the interior of the building. Please be aware that this is a very loud process. When the foundation pieces are dropping into the building, it may cause the entire building to shake. Do not be alarmed during this process.
- Next week, the work on the exterior walls will continue. In the lower level, the interior walls will be fully demolished and the construction debris will be removed.
- The week of the 26th will be devoted to asbestos abatement in the lower level, completion of the foundation walls and beginning the construction of the concrete beams, called grade beams, which will carry the weight of the exterior walls of the new portion of the Student Life Center.
- We expect the structural steel to arrive in March.
Please pray for good weather as work will continue in both the lower level of Melton and the outside exterior area this winter.
