Associate Professor of Health Science, 2001 Athletic Training Program Director BA, Spring Arbor College MS, Indiana State University Mr. Glass earned his Bachelor of Arts in physical education from Spring Arbor College, and the Master of Science with a specialization in athletic training from Indiana State University. He comes to Trinity with extensive years of experience in the clinical practice of athletic training for a major health care system in Detroit. He supports the position that the role of the athletic trainer is primarily in the prevention of injuries through education of safe sports participation. He has served many years as a state board member for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association. Associate Professor of Chemistry, 1989 Chemistry Department Chair BS, Wheaton College PhD, Texas A&M University Dr. Karlesky joined the Trinity faculty after holding teaching positions at Millikin University and St. Petersburg Junior College. She has pursued research in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. Her areas of expertise include high pressure liquid chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy. She has worked as consultant and analyst for two companies, and is an ACS certified professional chemist. She is a member of the American Scientific Affiliation, the American Chemical Society, and the Midwestern Association of Chemistry Teachers. Associate Professor of Biology, 1985 Biology Department Chair BS, MS, Northern Illinois University Professor Rentas was formerly a senior research associate at Baxter Travenol. Moving to Abbott Laboratories, he became the lead scientist of the Gono-zyme Technical Support Group and participated in the development of a test kit called Chlamydiazyme. Presently he is overseeing undergraduate research in two areas: (1) The cloning and sequencing of the gene for the enzyme isocitrate lyase from the green alga Bracteacoccus cinnabarinus.. (2) The cloning and sequencing of similar genes from other genera of green alga for comparison. He has a special interest in creationism and makes himself available for presentations. Professor Rentas Materials Professor of Biology, 1988 Director of the School of Science and technology Associate Academic Dean Health Science Department Chair BS (HONORS), New Mexico State University MT (ASCP), Scripps Memorial Hospital PhD, University of New Mexico School of Medicine Prior to earning her doctorate, Dr. Shelton worked as a medical technologist and taught courses for medical students and interns. Her predoctoral research was in immunology and developmental biology. She has also done postdoctoral research at Northwestern University in the areas of biochemistry, immunology, and reproductive biology and has written publications in these fields.
