Trinity College

Psychology Department Mission

The Psychology Department of Trinity International University exists to bring honor and glory to God by educating men and women in the content and procedures of the discipline of psychology consistent with an orthodox Christian faith. We encourage learners to study the theories and research about the human person in light of Biblical revelation. We maintain the study of psychology is an affirmation of our stewardship to investigate and marvel at the wonders of God's handiwork, and to confront the tragic impact of human fallenness with the intent to provide restorative efforts as participants in God's redemptive truths.

In preparing students for graduate school, the workplace, the community, their church, and their family life, we encourage them to explore and develop their values, interests, and abilities as thoughtful learners, to mature as authentic people, and to hone their critical thinking skills and problem solving capabilities to function well beyond the degree seeking years. We stand committed to lead ourselves and the learners entrusted to us in scholarly endeavors that will ultimately transform our lives as we allow ourselves to the guided by God's Spirit.

Personal Note:

Let me add that the statement above isn't a set of platitudes to take up space on a webpage.  I earnestly desire that our students (and graduates) be growing in three major areas.

I want them to be learning the content of the field of Psychology.  There is a lot to know in this discipline because people are complex, and that everywhere you find people you'll find psychological principles at work.

Secondly, I intend that our students are learning important skills.  These include research, writing, critical thinking, problem solving, and of course in a field such as this, people-relating abilities such as listening, empathy, leadership, cooperation and the ability to communicate effectively.

Lastly, my desire is that each student grow personally, one might say, grow-up personally.  As implied in the mission statement above, students need to see the complexities of life and faith in a coherent integrated framework.  The worldview connected to our Christian faith impacts how we see the discipline of Psychology. Students also need to see how they are influenced by their study in this field, to reflect personally about these realities, and to make efforts to adjust and mature as persons.

Does that sound like something you might desire for yourself?  Click the button below and continue.
