Women's Soccer News November 12, 2005Katelyn Keckeisen's lone goal of an Ashleigh Dellos shot and deflection in the first half was all TIU needed to advance to the NCCAA National Championship Tournament in Kissimmee, FL. Trinity International shutout Trinity Christian 1-0 on Saturday behind the goalkeeping of Allison Budden in the NCCAA North-Central Regional Tournament. November 11, 2005The Trojans returned to the soccer pitch on Friday after having a week off from playing action to take on Bethel (IN) in the semi-final match of the NCCAA North-Central Region Tournament hosted by Trinity International. The ladies advanced to the final with a 2-0 result on a goal in the first half by Ashleigh Dellos and another tally in the second half by Ruth Kratzer. Allison Budden recorded another shutout minding the nets for TIU. The Trojans face CCAC rival Trinity Christian in the final on Saturday at 11:00 AM on Schartner Field. The two teams have faced twice already this season as Trinity International won both matches, a 2-1 result during the regular season and a shootout win in the CCAC Tournament Final. TIU is hoping to gain a berth in the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, FL to defend their 2004 National Championship. November 4, 2005Fresh off a CCAC Tournament title, the Trojans entered the NAIA Region VII Tournament as the #1 seed. But the road ahead was not an easy one. They would have to face an old nemesis in # 5 seeded Robert Morris College. The two teams had already split during the season with RMC winning at Trinity in the regular season 1-0 in double overtime and TIU winning at Robert Morris 2-0 in the CCAC Tournament semifinals. The ladies trailed 2-0 at the intermission and 3-0 in the second half until Katelyn Keckeisen put TIU on the board scoring off a cross. But TIU could pull no closer as they fell 3-1 in the NAIA Region VII semifinal. Trinity will host the NCCAA North-Central Region Tournament this weekend and play Bethel (IN) on Friday, November 11th at 11:30 AM on Schartner Field. October 29, 2005TIU Women's Soccer pulled off the conference double Saturday with a 4-2 win in penalty kicks over Trinity Christian College on Schartner Field. The victory gives Trinity the CCAC Tournament Title to go along with their three-way tie for first place in the regular season. The game was evenly matched as both teams fought for a full 90 minutes and two 10 minute overtimes that resulted in a 0-0 score. The game was then decided from the penalty spot. Katelyn Keckeisen opened the shoot-out with a goal to put TIU up 1-0. Goalkeeper Allison Budden took over from there and stopped a shot by the first Troll shooter to keep the score at 1-0. Lindy Gritter deflected a shot off the TCC Keeper to give TIU a 2-0 advantage and again Budden stopped the next Troll shooter. Two shooter later, Ashleigh Dellos found the back of the net to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead and freshmen Ruth Kratzer sealed the tournament title as she blasted a shot past the keeper to give the Trojans a 4-2 win in penalty kicks. Trinity International (17-4) moves on to the NAIA Region VII Tournament this weekend, Nov. 4/5 in Des Moines, IA as the #1 seed. They will face the winner of the #4 Robert Morris and #5 Grandview quarterfinal game that takes place on Tuesday. Kickoff for the semifinal game in Iowa is set for 1:30 PM. October 26, 2005TIU avenged a 1-0 double overtime loss in the regular season with a 2-0 win on the road over #20 Robert Morris today in Chicago. The score was 0-0 until the 52nd minute when Ashleigh Dellos crossed a ball and three players converged on it in the box. Lindy Gritter out-hustled and out-muscled an Eagle defender and goalkeeper to put Trinity on the board 1-0. The score remained that way until the 79th minute when Kate Nelson dribbled into the penalty box and was taken down by a Robert Morris defender. The result was a penalty kick that Katelyn Keckeisen finished off to put the Trojans up 2-0. The win was the 10th shutout of the year for Allison Budden. The Trojans will host Trinity Christian on Saturday, October 29th, in the CCAC Final on Schartner Field. TIU women's soccer has been affiliated with the CCAC for 9 years and this is the 9th time TIU will have participated in the conference tournament final. October 15, 2005TIU closed out the CCAC conference schedule with a 3-0 win over Judson College on Senior Day on Schartner Field. Junior midfielder Katelyn Keckeisen scored all three goals for Trinity with Lindy Gritter and Jesse Edson each getting an assist. The win gives TIU a share of the conference crown with a 8-1 mark, but the Trojans will receive the 3rd seed in the CCAC Tournament as a result of goals allowed in conference. St. Xavier allowed 4 goals, Robert Morris allowed 5 and TIU gave up 6. TIU closes out their regular season on Thursday, October 20th, when they travel to Muscatine, IA to face Grandview College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM. October 12, 2005TIU rebounded from an emotional loss on Saturday with a 6-1 win over a much improved Illinois Institute of Technology today. The Trojans scored early and often in the first half finding the back of the net 4 times in the first half. Katelyn Keckeisen and Ashleigh Dellos scored 2 goals and had 2 assists for the match. Nicole Calvin and Lindy Gritter scored the remaining 2 goals. IIT's lone goal came off a questionable penalty kick as Trinity led 4-1 at the half. The Trojans scored twice more in the second stanza to make the final tally 6-1. On Saturday, October 15th, TIU will honor their seniors after their match with Judson College. That game will mark the end of the CCAC regular season. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM. October 8, 2005It was everything people thought it would be as #8 Robert Morris came to town to face #22 Trinity International during Homecoming festivities on Saturday. The two CCAC powers battled for 105 minutes until the game's lone goal gave visiting Robert Morris a 0-1 win with 5 minutes left in double overtime. Both team had outstanding chances in both regulation and overtime as goalkeeper Allison Budden played an excellent game in the nets for TIU. She made 18 saves, a few on breakaways that left her alone against an RMC player. The Trojans out-shot the Eagles, 30-19, and the TIU attack created 10 corner kicks to RMC's 4. The loss snaps Trinity's 8-game winning streak and the team falls back into a 3-way tie for first place in the CCAC. Their record now stands at 11-4 overall and 6-1 in the CCAC. The team returns to the pitch on Wednesday, October 12th, when they host Illinois Institute of Technology. Game time is set for 3:30 PM. October 4, 2005Trinity took to the road for a CCAC tilt at Calumet College-St. Joseph and returned with a 9-0 win. The victory moves the Trojans to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in conference as the ladies gain sole possession of first place in the standings. TIU scored 3 times to take a 3-0 advantage into the half and another 6 in the second stanza. Seven different players scored with Ashleigh Dellos and Cori Schwarz both finding the back of the net twice. Natalie Zierten scored her first collegiate goal against the Crimson Wave. The squad hosts #12 Robert Morris on Saturday as part of the TIU Homecoming Festivities. Kick-off is set for 11:30 AM. October 1, 2005Trinity International University hosted St. Francis in a CCAC match-up and moved to 5-0 in conference and 10-3 overall with a 12-0 win. The Trojans scored 6 goals in the first half and 6 in the second. The total was not a result of rubbing it in, but an example of TIU's depth with their back-ups playing as well as their starters. Six different Trojans scored with Katelyn Keckeisen scoring 4 of them. TIU continues their conference play on Tuesday, October 4th, when they travel to Hammond, IN to face Calumet College-St. Joseph. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM. September 28, 2005Trinity International University, ranked 23rd in the latest NAIA Poll, traveled to Milwaukee, WI to face CCAC foe Cardinal Stritch University and returned home with a 4-1 win in terrible conditions. Fighting a strong wind and rain, TIU scored the lone goal in the first half to take a 1-0 lead into the half. The second stanza saw much more scoring as the Trojans scored a goal early in the second half to take a 2-0 lead. The Wolves responded with a goal of their own, but Trinity answered that goal with two more to make the final score 4-1 in favor of Trinity. With the win, TIU has an 8-game winning streak that they will put on the line on Saturday, October 1st at home when they take on the University of St. Francis. The CCAC contest is set for 2:00 PM. September 24, 2005Trinity International took their newly acquired #25 national ranking into Missouri today and gained a tough decision at Hannibal LaGrange College. The opponent was a team in search of a 0-0 draw as HLG played a totally defensive game by packing all of their players into the defensive end of the. TIU had many outstanding chances to score, including 20 corner kicks, but failed to convert on their opportunities. With about 4 minutes remaining, things fell the Trojans way when Hannibal scored an own goal to give TIU a 1-0 lead. With the victory, Trinity moves to 8-3 overall and are still 3-0 in the CCAC. The ladies return to CCAC play this Wednesday, September 28th, when the squad travels to Milwaukee, WI for a 7:00 PM kickoff at Cardinal Stritch. September 20, 2005TIU moved to 3-0 in the CCAC and 7-3 overall with a 4-1 win at Olivet Nazarene. This is the Trojans 4th win in a row and 6th of their last 7. The ladies scored twice off penalty kicks and Ashleigh Dellos and Cori Schwarz scored in the regular run of play. Trinity is on the move as they are now ranked second in Region VII of the NAIA and hope to either break into the Top 25 or receive votes. The ladies travel to Hannibal, MO this Saturday, September 24th, to face Hannibal-LaGrange. Kick-off is set for 4:00 PM. September 17, 2005Saturday gave TIU a big boost for this season when the Trojans defeated the NAIA's #18 ranked team 2-1 in double overtime. Not only does this give TIU a win over a ranked program, but a 2-0 record in the CCAC with 2 tough games behind them in St. Xavier and previously undefeated Trinity Christian. The game was close, as it always is with these two squads, when in the 75th minute, the Cougars opened the scoring with a beautiful shot that beat keeper Allison Budden. Trailing 1-0 and feeling a sense of urgency, the Trojans searched for the equalizer and found it in the 85th minute when Ashleigh Dellos scored off the assist from Cori Schwarz to send the game into overtime. It wasn't until the second overtime that the game would be decide when Dellos and Schwarz connected again. This time Cori fed Ashleigh a through ball that was just on-sides and Ashleigh shot. The keeper made the initial save, but the ball rebounded out and Dellos put it in the back of the net for the winner. The win moves TIU to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in CCAC play. The ladies put that undefeated conference record on the line on Tuesday, September 20th, when they travel to Bourbonnais, IL to face Olivet Nazarene. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM. September 14, 2005TIU opened their conference schedule with a evenly contested 2-1 win over Trinity Christian College today on Schartner Field. TIU scored quickly when Katelyn Keckeisen finished off a pass from Cori Schwarz in the first minute of play. The goal put the Trolls back on their heels, but they recovered and played an tight and aggressive rest of the half, equalizing the score at 1-1 with 30 seconds left in the first half. Both squads had their chances in the second stanza, but it wasn't until Loryssa Simas scored for TIU on a ball played through by Ruth Kratzer that gave the Trojans the advantage. Both teams has 12 shot on goal. The Trojans move to 1-0 in CCAC play with the victory and 5-3 overall. The ladies return to action on Saturday as they host CCAC foe St. Xavier University. Game time is set for 2:00 PM on Shartner Field. September 10, 2005Trinity International University finished their 2005 non-conference schedule with a 4-3 mark as they defeated Missouri Baptist University 2-1 in overtime today. The Trojans found themselves down at halftime 0-1 after the Spartans scored with about 10 minutes left in the first half. But Cori Schwarz tied the score at 1-1 10 minutes into the second half with Katelyn Keckeisen and Heather Hershberger getting the assists. After the full 90 minutes had expired, the teams remained 1-1 and they would let overtime decide it. In the overtime, the Trojans ended the match with a beautiful goal as Cori Schwarz finished a corner kick from Lindy Gritter to give TIU the 2-1 win. The ladies open CCAC play on Wednesday, September 14th, at home versus Trinity Christian College. Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM on Schartner Field. September 9, 2005Trinity International (3-3) dropped a close game at NCAA DII Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, 0-1. The lone goal of the game came in the 23rd minute when a SIU-E scored from 15-yds out. Goalkeeper Allison Budden came up with 6 saves at TIU was out-shot 13-7. The ladies play again tomorrow in St. Louis against Missouri Baptist University. Game time is set for 4:00 PM at the St. Louis Soccer Park. September 7, 2005Trinity International (3-2) traveled to Davenport, IA and soundly defeated the Queen Bees of St. Ambrose 4-0 today. Junior forward Ashleigh Dellos collected the hat-trick (3 goals in one game) as she continues her goal scoring prowess with 5 goals in 5 games. Junior Katelyn Keckeisen scored the squad's other goal and added an assist, while senior Lindy Gritter collected 2 assists of her own. The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Trojans as they hit the road again this weekend to face NCAA DII foe Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville on Friday at 5:00PM and Missouri Baptist University on Saturday at 4:00 PM. Both games will be played in St. Louis, MO. September 3, 2005SALEM, Ore. – Trinity International used a tough defense to give host Corban College their first loss of the season, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon and finish as the Corban Classic champions. Despite all four teams going 1-1 in the tournament, TIU won the classic because it was the only team who had a positive goal differential (goals for-goals against). Trinity found themselves up in the 9th minute when junior Ashleigh Dellos took a pass from senior Lindy Gritter and flicked the ball over the Warriors’ keeper for the early lead. Both teams seemed pretty evenly matched over the first forty-five minutes, as Trinity International slightly out shot the Warriors, 10-6. Everything seemed to change over the final forty-five minutes of play, as TIU controlled the ball for a majority of the second half. The Warriors did not record a shot in the second half, while the Trojans rifled 15 shots towards Corban’s goal. In the 84th minute, Trinity International added some cushioning when sophomore Loryssa Simas received a pass from junior Katelyn Keckeisen, beat two Corban defenders, and slid the ball under the Warrior goalkeeper. Trinity International goalkeeper Allison Budden collected 2 saves en route to recording the shut out. Corban found themselves down offensively all day, as Trinity International out shot the Warriors, 25-6 (10-2 shots on goal), and recorded 13 more corner kicks (15-2). TIU travels to Davenport, IA on Wednesday, Sept. 7th to face St. Ambrose University. September 2, 2005SALEM, Ore.- Trinity International dropped a decision to the NAIA's 7th ranked Concordia-Portland, 2-1 on Friday. The Cavaliers jumped on the Trojans early, scoring in the 2nd minute of the game to go up 1-0. The game evened out for the rest of the half until the 40th minute when Concordia scored again to go into the half 2-0. Trinity came out stronger in the second half and found themselves in the scoring column when Loryssa Simas received a cross, split the defense and found herself one-on-one with the keeper. She shot and the keeper deflected the ball off the crossbar, but Simas tapped in the rebound for the Trojans lone goal. Goalkeeper Allison Budden collected 7 saves. TIU was out-shot during the contest 17-6 (5-7 in the second half). The Trojans play again tomorrow against host Corban College in the second game of the Corban Classic in Salem, OR. August 30, 2005SALEM, Ore. – Corban College women’s soccer program will host the 1st Annual Corban Classic on Friday and Saturday, September 2nd and 3rd, at Warrior Field in Salem, Oregon. The Corban Classic will feature three of the top ranked women’s soccer programs in the nation. The teams competing will be Biola (NAIA’s No. 6-ranked), Concordia-Portland (NAIA’s No. 7-ranked), Trinity International (NAIA’s No. 30-ranked), and classic-host Corban. Biola, led by 5th year head coach Michael Silzer, is the defending Golden State Athletic Conference champions and are just coming off a year in which they recorded an overall record of 16-2-1 (10-1 GSAC), won their 1st conference championship, and advanced to the national tournament for the first time in school history. Biola returns 16 letter winners (6 starters), including NAIA All-American and All-GSAC members Krystal McKay and Hilary Dunham. Concordia-Portland, led by 9th year head coach Grant Landy, is the defending Cascade Conference North Division champions and Cascade Conference post-season tournament winners. The Cavaliers are coming off a year in which they recorded an overall record of 18-3-4 (10-0-1 CCC), won their fifth straight conference title, and advanced to the NAIA national championship game. The Lady Trojans are coming off a season in which they recorded an overall record of 18-8 (8-1 CCAC) and return 13 letter winners, including NCCAA All-Tournament members Allison Budden, Kelly Campbell, and Ashleigh Dellos. Corban, led by 10th year head coach Marty Ziesemer, is the defending Cascade Conference South Division champions and are coming off a year in which they recorded an overall record of 14-7-1 (10-1-1 CCC). The Warriors return 17 letter winners (10 starters), including All-Conference members Kim Mendenhall, Sarah Officer, and Megan Waunch. August 27, 2005Trinity International University (1-1) dropped the second game of opening weekend 2-4 to Savannah College of Art & Design today at Schartner Field. SCAD opened the scoring in the 26th minute on a great shot from a dead ball 25 yards out. TIU fought back to tie the score in the 35th minute, but lapsed and gave up a goal about a minute later as SCAD led 2-1 at the half. The Trojans decided to change things up a little and came out in the second half playing a different system and controlled the game for about 25 minutes, tying the score at 2-2. But the Trojans would give up two more goals, one on a free kick and another off a corner kick as the ladies fell 2-4. The squad travels this weekend to Salem, OR to face the NAIA's 7th-ranked team in Concordia University on Friday, Sept. 2nd and Corban College on Saturday, Sept. 3rd. August 26, 2005Trinity International University (1-0) opened their 2005 campaign with a solid outing as they defeated Taylor University 5-0 on Schartner Field this afternoon. The contest called upon a little of the Trojan experience and showcased some of their potential and future. Junior Ashleigh Dellos opened the scoring in the 25th minute when she put a cross from senior Lindy Gritter in the back of the net. The score remained 1-0 until the 75th minute when the Trojans began their offensive attack, scoring 4 goals in 8 minutes. The goal-scoring spree was lead by the underclassmen. A couple of sophomores hooked up twice as Megan Pelland assisted on both of Kate Nelson's tallies, while the other two goals could be a sign of things to come. Freshmen Jesse Edson and Ruth Kratzer each scored their first collegiate goal in their first collegiate match. Trinity plays again tomorrow, August 27th. They play host to Savannah College of Art and Design at 3:00 PM on Schartner Field.
