November 22, 2004

Trinity International University is the 2004 NCCAA National Champion.  The team achieved this feat with a 2-0 win over Mount Vernon Nazarene while in Kissimmee, FL.  This victory allowed the Trojans an opportunity to beat a foe that has been a thorn in their side as of late.  Mount Vernon defeated TIU in last year's NCCAA Final 0-2 and the two squads opened their season here in Deerfield, IL when MVNU beat Trinity 3-2.  So the win allowed the Trojans to exact a little revenge.  The two played to a scoreless first half in the championship game.  But 4 minutes into the second half, Ashleigh Dellos netted the games first score to put TIU up 1-0.  The score would stay that way in a tight match until the 81st minute when Dellos finished off a pass from Jill Barre to give the Trojans a little breathing room.  Keeper Allison Budden (7 saves) and the Trojan defense held Mount Vernon scoreless as Trinity International claimed the NCCAA National Championship.  They finished their season at 18-8.

November 20, 2004

TIU advanced to the NCCAA National Tournament Final with a 2-1 victory over Cedarville (OH) University.  All the scoring was done in the first half.  Megan Pelland opened the scoring at the 17 minute mark with the assists going to Jill Barre and Lindy Gritter.  Then Barre made the score 2-0 on an unassisted goal at the 36 minute mark.  The Trojans thought the half would that at 2-0, but with about a minute remaining, Cedarville scored to bring the halftime tally to 2-1.  The second half remained scoreless and TIU earned an opportunity to win the NCCAA National Title and revenge last seasons loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene in the 2003 National Championship Match.  Once again, Mount Vernon Nazarene stands in the way.  Kick-off is set for 4:30 PM EST in Kissimmee, FL.

November 19, 2004

Trinity International advanced to the Semi-final contest of the NCCAA National Tournament by way of a 3-0 win over Christian Heritage (CA) College.  Katelyn Keckeisen opened the scoring in the first half when she converted on a penalty kick as TIU took a 1-0 lead.  That score would hold until the second half when Keckeisen beat a defender at the near post to put the Trojans up by two.  Katelyn then completed the hat-trick when she scored on another penalty kick as TIU ended the scoring at 3-0.  They will face the winner of Dallas Baptist and Cedarville on Saturday, Nov. 20th in Kissimmee, FL.

November 15, 2004

Trinity International (15-8) advanced to the NCCAA National Tournament (click here for info) with a 2-1 win over Bethel (IN) College.  Ashleigh Dellos scored twice for the Trojans, once in the first half and once in the second, to put TIU up 2-0.  But the Pilots would not go away and continued to pressure the young Trojan defense.  With under 10 minutes remaining, Bethel scored to bring them to within 1.  However, they could not close the gap as Trinity International won 2-1 and will represent the North-Central Region in the NCCAA Tournament in Kissimmee, FL, Nov. 19-22.  The Trojans finished last year as the National Runner-Up and hope to use that experience to bring home a National Championship in 2004.  They are the #2 seed and will face #7 Christian Heritage College (CA) on Friday, Nov. 19th at 2:00 PM EST.

November 11, 2004

Trinity International (14-8) advanced to the NCCAA North-Central Final with a 1-0 win over Trinity Christian College.  With the game 0-0 and only a few minutes remaining, TIU played the ball into a crowded penalty box and Katelyn Keckeisen wound up with the ball.  From about 10-yards out, she finished with her left foot and buried the ball into the back of the net to score the game winning goal.  The Trojans will host Bethel College (IN) on Saturday, Nov. 13th in the NCCAA North-Central Final with the winner going on to the NCCAA National Tournament in Florida.  Kick-off is set 1:30 PM on Shartner Field.

November 3, 2004

Trinity International (13-8) lost a closely contested match with St. Xavier 1-2 in double overtime.  About 15 minutes into the second half, Jill Barre played a beautiful ball through the Cougar defense to Ashleigh Dellos.  Dellos then played the ball across the penalty box to an oncoming Cori Schwarz who finished the play with a well-placed ball into the back of the net.  St. Xavier continued to push the Trojan defense and scored the equalizer about 10 minutes later.  The game went into overtime and it wasn't until the second overtime that the Cougars broke through the Trojan defense and gained a breakaway.  The play resulted in a penalty kick that sealed the victory for St. Xavier.  TIU will host an NCCAA North-Central Region game next week.  Game time, opponents and sites are yet to be determined.

November 1, 2004

Trinity International (13-7) lost 1-0 to the NAIA #2 ranked Robert Morris College in the CCAC Tournament Finals on Saturday.  This is the second time they have lost to the Eagles by 1 goal, dropping a 2-1 decision on Oct. 16th.  TIU played very well despite the outcome and their exceptional play all year has earned the team a spot in the NAIA Region VII Tournament.  Trinity will host St. Xavier on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd, at 1:30 PM on Shartner Field.  If TIU wins the Regional Tournament, they will gain an automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament in Santa Barbara, CA.

October 27, 2004

Trinity International (13-6) gained a berth into the CCAC Tournament Final with a 1-0 victory over Olivet Nazarene University.  In an evenly played contest, the deciding goal was scored halfway through the first half  when Cori Schwarz finished off a beautiful cross from Jill Barre to put the ladies ahead.  Keeper Allison Budden and a staunch Trojan defense held off the Tiger attack to preserve the shutout.  TIU will play in the Championship match against Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 30th, in Chicago, IL.  Kick-off is set for 12:00 (noon).

October 25, 2004

Trinity International (12-6) women's soccer team came out with a mission last Saturday when they took the field against rival Judson in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament.  That mission is to repeat as CCAC Tournament Champs and gain an automatic bid into the Region VII Tournament.  So far so good.  The ladies defeated Judson 9-0 with goals coming from Kelly Kehoe (Katelyn Keckeisen), Lindy Gritter (Cori Schwarz, Keckeisen), Lindsey Rademacher (Keckeisen), Jill Barre (Kehoe), Katelyn Keckeisen (Lindy Gritter), Lindy Gritter again, Loryssa Simas (Jen Storkel), Tiff Jones (Tami Burke, Storkel) and Nicole Calvin (Kate Nelson).  Hannah Peterson and Katie Vanderwende combined for the shutout.  The Trojans will host Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday, October 27th, at 2:00 PM on Shartner Field.

October 19, 2004

Trinity's women soccer team (11-6) concluded their regular season with a 2-1 victory over St. Francis in Joliet last night.  The win clinches second place in the CCAC with a 8-1 mark.  The scoring began in the first half when Lindy Gritter scored directly off a corner kick bending the ball into the back of the net.  TIU entered the break with a 1-0 lead.  In the second half, the Saints tied the score at 1-1, but with about 23 minutes remaining in the game, Cori Schwarz netted the go ahead goal and the game ended in a 2-1 final in favor of the Trojans.  TIU will host a first round CCAC game on Saturday, Oct. 23rd on Shartner Field.  Their opponent has yet to be named.

October 16,2004

Trinity's women soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 16th and hosted then nation's 3rd ranked team in Robert Morris.  Both the Trojans and the Eagles entered the contest undefeated in the CCAC.  Fighting the cold and a bitter wind, Robert Morris scored 2 goals in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the break.  The Trojans came out fighting in the second half, playing some of the best soccer of the season and scored when Lindsey Rademacher played a ball down the line to a streaking Ashleigh Dellos.  Dellos lifted the ball from the side and scored when the ball cleared the out-reached arms of the Robert Morris keeper and wound up in the back of the net.  Despite their effort, that was the only goal TIU could muster as they fell 2-1 to RMC.  The loss moves the Trojans to 10-6 overall and 7-1 in the CCAC.  The ladies can't afford to drop their heads as they have another pivotal CCAC match on Tuesday in Joliet, IL as they face the Saints of St. Francis at 3:30 PM.

October 9, 2004

Trinity International University hosted the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and fell 1-2 Saturday afternoon despite out-shooting their opponent 18-3.  Oshkosh scored about 4 minutes into the game to take a 1-0 lead over the Trojans, but the ladies fought back and scored the equalizer on an Ashleigh Dellos header off a cornerkick by Jill Barre.  The game entered the half at 1-1.  The teams battled until Oshkosh scored the go ahead goal shortly after an injury stopped the game for about 5 minutes.  The loss drops TIU to 9-5 overall, but still 6-0 in the CCAC.  The ladies return to conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 13  when they travel into Chicago, IL to face IIT.  Kickoff is set for 7:30 PM.

October 6, 2004

TIU returned to conference play on Tuesday and stayed undefeated as they downed Cardinal Stritch 6-0 on Shartner Field.  The ladies controlled the play in the first half but had trouble scoring with Jill Barre netting the only goal of the half as TIU lead 1-0 at the break.  Trinity exploded in the second half, scoring two quick goal by Katelyn Keckeisen and Jeanne Shambach to jump to a 3-0 advantage.  Shambach would add another goal and Freshman Loryssa Simas scored twice in the TIU victory.  TIU is now 9-4 overall and 6-0 in the CCAC.  The ladies will leave CCAC play for the weekend as they host NCAA III Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Saturday, Oct. 9th at 12:00 PM (noon) on Shartner Field.

October 2, 2004

The women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Missouri Baptist University during TIU Homecoming festivities on Saturday.  The loss snaps the Trojans 5-game win streak as they allowed only their second goal in their last 6 games.  Trinity carried much of the possession time in the first half, but could not muster a goal as the teams were tied at 0-0 going into the half.  TIU opened the second half a little flat and gave up a break away goal about 2 minutes in to give the Lady Spartans the lead.  The Trojans pushed and were the more aggressive team in the second half but could not find the equalizer as they fell to Missouri Baptist.  The loss moves them to 8-4 overall.  They return to CCAC play this week and put their 5-0 conference record on the line as they host Cardinal Stritch University on Tuesday, October 5th at 3:30 PM on Shartner Field.

September 30, 2004

The Lady Trojans traveled to Elgin, IL to put their undefeated conference record and #23 national ranking on the line against rival Judson College.  The squad took control in the first half when Jill Barre flicked a beautiful ball that hit off the post and into the net to put TIU up 1-0 and took a 2-0 lead into halftime after Katelyn Keckeisen out-hustled everyone to put away a shot off the crossbar.  Trinity played a great second half and only managed 1 goal when Ashleigh Dellos finished a Charise McAllister cross to end the scoring at 3-0.  The game saw Trinity International control the game with 14 corner kicks while out-shooting Judson 38-2.  Freshman Hannah Peterson saw her first action of her career in the nets as she shutout the Eagles.  The win puts the Trojans at 8-3 overall and 5-0 in the CCAC.  The ladies will face Missouri Baptist University on Saturday, October 2nd at 11:00 AM on Shartner Field as part of the Trinity International University Homecoming festivities.

September 27, 2004

TIU played CCAC rival Trinity Christian College on Saturday and came away with a 2-0 victory to move to 7-3 overall and 4-0 in the CCAC.  Jill Barre opened the scoring in the first half when she headed home a cross from Ashleigh Dellos as the Trojans took a 1-0 lead into the half.  Barre scored again in the second half to  put TIU up 2-0 with the assist going to freshmen Loryssa Simas.  Allison Budden recorded another shutout as the Trolls only had a few opportunities to score in the game.  The women resume CCAC play as they travel to Elgin, IL to face Judson College on Tuesday, September 28th.

September 22, 2004

The Lady Trojans defeated CCAC rival Olivet Nazarene 3-1 yesterday in a very exciting game.  Olivet jumped out to a 1-0 lead about 25 minutes into the game, but Trinity responded quickly when Ashleigh Dellos evened the score at 1-1 :30 seconds later.  TIU took the lead later in the first half when Jill Barre netted her first goal of the match and the Trojans took a 2-1 lead into the half.  The second half was a tight game and the outcome wasn't decided until Jill Barre scored from 18-yards out with just a few minutes to play to give TIU a slight cushion at 3-1.  The win moves Trinity International to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the CCAC.  The women broke into the NAIA National Poll when it was released on Tuesday at #24.  They will take their momentum to Palos Heights, IL on Saturday, September 25th and take on another CCAC rival in Trinity Christian College.  Kickoff has been changed to 3:00 PM.

September 18, 2004

TIU won their 5th game in their last six tries with an exciting 1-0 victory at St. Xavier University on Friday, September 17th.  The Cougars of St. Xavier were 7-0 at the time and ranked #20 in the recent NAIA National poll.  The game was tied with about 23 minutes left when a trio of juniors hooked up to put the Trojans up 1-0.  Cori Schwarz scored the games lone goal with Lindy Gritter and Kelly Campbell each getting an assist.  The win moves the squad to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the CCAC.  The women will host Olivet Nazarene in another CCAC showdown on Tuesday, September 21st on Shartner Field.  Kickoff is set for 4:00 PM.

September 16, 2004

The Lady Trojans opened their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference season with a 3-0 win over Calumet College-St. Joseph on Shartner Field Wednesday.  Sophomore Ashleigh Dellos scored the first two goals of the contest on similar moves.  Both times, Dellos received the ball at her feet, did a quick spin to get by the defender and then put the ball in the back of the net.  The third and final goal of the day was scored by freshman Kelly Kehoe who drove a 12-yard shot into the corner of the goal after Jill Barre slotted her the ball between a number of Calumet defenders.  The women continue CCAC play on Friday, September 17 when they travel into the southern part of Chicago to take on St. Xavier University.  Kickoff is slotted for 4:00 PM.

September 13, 2004

Women's soccer traveled to Lebanon, IL to face McKendree College on Saturday and fell 0-2.  McKendree took a 1-0 lead in the first half and 8 minutes later, Trinity had an opportunity to tie it at 1-1, but hit the post on a penalty kick.  That miss seemed to fire the Trojans up as they picked up the play in the second half, allowing just 1 shot and 1 corner kick to the Bearcat's.  However, McKendree added another goal in the 86th minute to take a two goal lead and close out the contest.  TIU looks to rebound on Wednesday, Sept. 15th as they open CCAC play at home versus Calumet College-St. Joseph at 4:00 PM.

September 10, 2004

Women's soccer hosted St. Ambrose University (IA) yesterday and tallied a 4-1 victory to move their record to 3-2 on the young season.  Jill Barre opened the scoring with her first goal of the evening early in the contest to stake TIU to a 1-0 lead.  Later in the half, Lindy Gritter let loose a cross that found its way into the back of the net as Trinity took a 2-0 lead into halftime.  In the second half, the play got intense and physical, but Jill Barre netted another 2 goals to solidify the Trojans lead at 4-1 and earn herself a hat trick.  Allison Budden allowed 1 goal roaming the net for TIU as the team is rounding into shape, outscoring their opponents 14-3 in the last 3 games.  The ladies travel to Lebanon, IL to face a tough McKendree College team on Saturday, Sept. 11th at 11:00 AM.

September 7, 2004

Women’s soccer traveled to Kankakee, IL to participate in the Olivet Nazarene University tournament and walked away with the tournament title.  On Friday, the Trojans handled Mid-America University rather easily with a 9-2 victory.  Loryssa Simas recorded her first collegiate hat trick, scoring 3 goals while Jill Barre netted 2 of her own.  On Saturday, TIU faced a much stronger Spring Arbor (MI) team that fought hard, but still fell to the Trojans 1-0.  In a game Coach Gilliam described as the best “team” game he has ever coached at Trinity, the Trojans scored after Ashleigh Dellos drew a penalty kick.  Jill Barre stepped up to take the shot and hit a beauty, but the Spring Arbor keeper made a great save but couldn’t hold on to the ball.  Katelyn Keckeisen rushed into the penalty area and put the ball in the net for the lone goal.  Allison Budden recorded her first shutout of the young season. The women are currently ranked 4th in Region VII of the NAIA and will host St. Ambrose on Thursday at 4:00 PM.

August 30, 2004

Women’s soccer opened their 2004 campaign against the team that ended their 2003 season.  On Saturday, the Trojans faced Mount Vernon Nazarene on Shartner field in a rematch of last year’s 2003 NCCAA National Championship game.  And like last year, MVNU came out on top, this time 3-2.  MVNU scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into halftime, but the Trojans came out in the second half and controlled the play.  In a sign of things to come, two freshmen hooked up for the first TIU goal, Laura Dellatorre scored off a cross from Loryssa Simas.  TIU then evened the score off a beautiful 20-yard shot from senior Jill Barre, but MVNU scored the eventual winner with 10 minutes remaining.  On Saturday, TIU fell to Trinity Western 3-1.  Jill Barre scored the lone Trojan goal on a penalty kick after Missy Morris was brought down in the penalty box.  Next, the ladies travel to Kankakee, IL to face Mid-American University on Friday and Spring Arbor College on Saturday.
