TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITYTROJAN SOFTBALLTeam Philosophy & Core ValuesThe TIU Trojans Softball Program desires to use the vehicle of intercollegiate athletic competition as an opportunity to develop young women in both their current and future relationship with the Lord, while also maintaining a team that strives to compete at an NAIA national level. By accomplishing these tasks, we will not only be touching the lives of those directly involved in the program, but fulfilling Jesus' Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) to be "salt" and "light" to all whom we might come in contact with in the competitive arena (opponents, fans, officials, media, etc.). It is our desire to cultivate wholehearted disciples of Christ, developing in them a passion for Christ, a zeal for His people and excellence in all areas of life. In seeking to do this, we as the Lady Trojan Softball Program stand on the following PILLARS:UNITY:Ephesians 4:2-4: "Be completely humble and gentle: be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit-just as you were called to one hope when you were called." - We desire to create a team environment which resembles a family and encourages selflessness, vulnerability, truthfulness, patience, and unconditional love.
- We desire to demonstrate a level of trust and self abandonment which elevates the overall good of the team above our own personal rights and desires. In doing this we cultivate a team cohesiveness and chemistry which allows us to wholeheartedly pursue a common goal of team and individual excellence.
COURAGE:Joshua 1: 9: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." - We desire to maintain an attitude of hopefulness, even in the midst of difficulty or adversity.
- We desire to create a team environment which challenges each individual to step out of their comfort zone and push themselves to a new level physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.
STRENGTH:Isaiah 40:29-31: "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - We recognize strength rooted in humility, relying on each other and ultimately gaining our confidence from the Lord as we strive to give our best for His glory.
- We desire to be resilient in our efforts to persevere through and learn from conflict and difficulty that we face in intercollegiate athletics, and believe that through these experiences we will mature as leaders, individuals and teammates.
EXCELLENCE:Colossians3:23-24: "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as reward." - We believe that excellence is the gradual result of always wanting to do better; it is not a destination but a process that must be continually improved, requiring discipline and giving the highest effort in all things at all times.
- We believe that excellence is an act of obedience and the maximum exercise of one's gifts and abilities within the range of responsibilities given by God.
