TIU Softball 2003 News

May 8, 2003

Jessica Livingstone was named CCAC Honorable Mention All-Conference, and Tina Sparks was named CCAC All-Conference First Team in the recently released post-season honor list.  Livingstone and Sparks led TIU all season offensively, contributing most of the extra base hits and RBI for the Lady Trojans this season.  TIU finished with an 11-27-2 record on the season, their best record in several seasons.  Head Coach John Bernard was pleased with the progress the softball program made this season, remarking simply, "we're up and coming, and other programs are starting to take notice."

March 31, 2003

TIU faced non-conference opponent Benedictine University on Thursday, notching a 4-0 win in the first game, and settling for their second tie of the season as a result of darkness.  Tina Sparks once again led the offense for the Lady Trojans with two triples and a double for 3 RBI.  Janella Patera recorded the win for TIU, who have recorded a 5-0-2 record in their last 7 games.  The #12 ranked St. Xavier University visits TIU on Tuesday.

March 26, 2003

TIU hosted local rivals North Park for a double-header Tuesday afternoon, defeating them soundly in the first game 7-0, and settling for a 6-6 tie when darkness fell on the second game.  Tina Sparks (double, two triples, 4 RBI) and Jessica Livingston (double, triple, 2 RBI) led the offensive outburst for the Lady Trojans, while Janella Patera recorded the win in the first game.  TIU hosts Benedictine University on Thursday.

March 15, 2003

TIU made their way south to Greenville College to play a double header this afternoon, winning both games.  Kelly Bond provided the offense for the Lady Trojans, driving in 3 runs on 4 for 8 hitting.  Head Coach Jon Bernard also cited the improved defense as contributing factor for the victories, as the team were able to turn two double plays at key intervals in the games to maintain leads.  Janella Patera and Tina Sparks were the winning pitchers for TIU.

March 3-8, 2003

TIU opened its 2003 campaign with games in sunny Tucson, AZ, going 1-9, but showing signs of improvement.  Head Coach John Bernard was quick to point out the contributions of Tina Sparks (2 doubles, 2 HR), and Jessica Livingston (2 HR) on the young season, but cited trouble fielding the ball as the major cause for the early season defeats.
