ATHLETIC UPDATE September 5, 2006 MEN'S SoccerOverall Record1-1-2 Men's Soccer started off the week with an exciting 1-0 victory at St. Ambrose University. Kyle Bacon scored the only goal needed for the Trojans, and Brad Drake preserved the shutout. The loss was the first at home for St. Ambrose in over a year. The Trojans second game this year was against Dominican University, a sweet 16 finalist (NCAA III) last season. Trinity fell to the tough Dominican squad, 3-2. Junior Caleb Redelman and Junior Guillermo Kegalj nailed in the two goals for the Trojans. The final game of the weekend saw the Trojans face Elmhurst College at Dominican University. The Trojans went up 1-0 on a Cristian Madalengoitia goal but then later gave up a goal of their own to Elmhurst. The contest went to overtime tie 1-1 and after the overtime period nothing had been decided. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. After a weekend of tough, physical play the Trojans maintained the standard at which Trinity athletics strives for. Several questionable calls at various times, could have enraged the team, the Trojans kept their cool throughout the whole weekend. "Our players showed character and integrity, and kept the higher standard that Trinity is used to", said Trojans' head Coach Chris Bergmann. The Trojans also had two athletes make the All-Tournament Team: Caleb Redelmen (Junior) and Mark Willcox (Senior). Both of these athletes played excellent throughout the tournament. WOMEN'S SoccerOverall Record 3-1 The Women's soccer team is off to a very impressive start, winning three out of its first four games this season. The winning started right away, as the Trojans won their first contest 10-0 over Iowa Wesleyan. Junior Nicole Calvin scored an impressive 4 goals and Asleigh Dellos added 2 of her own. Goalkeeper Allison Budden held Iowa Wesleyan for the shutout. The Trojans fell to Cornerstone 3-0 in their next game for their first loss of the season. At halftime the team was only trailing 1-0, but two-second half goals did in the Trojans. The Trojans' third game of the year has probably been their most impressive so far. After trailing 1-0 with only 1:20 left on the clock, Asleigh Dellos scored a goal to send the game with Lindenwood University into overtime. Dellos then scored again in overtime to clinch the 2-1 victory for the Trojans. "In the eleven years that I have been at Trinity, that is one of our best comebacks in a game ever", said Trojans' head Coach Patrick Gilliam. The Trojans then ended the weekend well with a 3-1 victory over Baker University. Freshmen Ruth Kratzer scored the team's first goal assisted by Nicole Collins. The Trojans second goal of the first half was knocked in by Loryssa Simas who was assisted by Asleigh Dellos. The Trojans then clinched the victory as Nicole Collins scored on another Asleigh Dellos assist in the first minute of the second half. The fast start for the Trojans is very encouraging, as the team historically tends to get better as the year goes on.
