Football

Overall Record 1-1

Saturday was a very important and exciting day for the Trinity International University's football program.  The team traveled to Valparaiso University in Indiana and not only put up a good fight, but knocked off the Division I AA Crusaders 39-20 at Brown Field.

The Trojans fell behind early in the game and were trailing 6-0 after the first quarter.  A Kelly Tappenbeck 30-yard Field Goal got the Trojans on the board early in the Second Quarter.  The Trojans then scored three more times in the second quarter, beginning with a Matthew Reaves 61-yard touchdown run, which cut the Crusaders lead to 13-10.  With just over two minutes left in the first half, Josiah Sheedlo intercepted a Valparaiso pass and returned it 34 yards for a touchdown, which gave the Trojans a lead that they would not give back the rest of the day.

"The single most important spark in the game was the interception by Josiah Sheedlo," said Coach Dewitt.

Trinity then capitalized one more time in the first half when Quarterback Ryan Thorson found Brennan Smith for a 10-yard touchdown.  Thorson later connected with Deon Dukes for a 22 yard score and Brennan Smith found the endzone one more time with 3-yard touchdown run.

Trinity Quarterback Ryan Thorson led the Trojans through the air going 13-0f-24 with 171 yards and 2 touchdowns on the day.  Reaves led the team on the ground with 125 yards, and Dukes was unstoppable catching the ball 9 times for 126 yards.
