MEN'S Soccer
Overall Record 6-2-2, 3-0 (CCAC)
The men's soccer team won a pivotal conference game on Wednesday against Trinity Chrstian 1-0 to improve their conference record to 3-0 this season.
Freshman Andrew Melchor collected his first career assist when he found Sophomore Travis Bacon for the lone goal of the game to give TIU the 1-0 victory.
Despite the close score, the contest was dominated by the Trojans who had 12 shots on goal, to Trinity Christian's 6. Junior Lucas Zicher came up with the game's most important save when he stopped a free kick from Trinity Christian with only 4 seconds left in the game.
The big win for the Trojans keeps Trinity deadlocked with Cardinal Stritch University for first place in the CCAC Conference, each with 3-0 records.
The Trojans also won a reserve game against Triton College on Saturday. Mark Robertson and Sal Diaz each scored for the Trojans.
This week the Trojans will play at University of St. Francis on Tuesday at 4:00 PM and on Saturday at home against Robert Morris College at 11:30 AM.
WOMEN'S Soccer
Overall Record 8-3 (2-2) CCAC
The Trojans played a very solid week of soccer and capitalized on a huge win over their big rivals of Trinity Christian Tuesday 3-1.
The Trojans looked forward to getting back on the field with Trinity Christian this year, after playing the Trolls four times last year, including the National Championship game for Christian schools.
The Trojans played excellent in the 3-1 victory and were led by Loryssa Simas, Katelyn Keckeisen, and Megan Pelland, who all scored goals in the contest. Overall it was a great win for the Trojans over a very tough and experienced team.
On Saturday the Trojans played host to Olivet Nazarene University, another good team, and were defeated 1-0. The Trojans dominated the game as they had almost twice as many shots on goal as Olivet. However, Olivet got one great chance and capitalized on it for the 1-0 victory.
The week saw the Trojans play some very difficult games and the team put forth one of their best weeks of the season.
This week the Trojans will look to improve their conference record with two road games against St. Francis and Robert Morris College.
THIS WEEK'S SCHEDULE
The Women's Soccer team will play two conference road games this week. The first game is Tuesday at St. Francis at 4:00 PM (at Galowich YMCA) and the second game is at Robert Morris on Saturday at 12:00 PM.
The Men's Soccer team will also play Wednesday against St. Francis at 4:00 PM and then will host Robert Morris at 11:30 AM.
