Trinity International University is pleased to announce that Chris Bergmann has accepted the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach for the Trojans. Chris comes to TIU after serving as Head Men's Soccer Coach as well as Assistant Athletic Director and Eligibility Chairperson at Hope International University in Fullerton, CA. In his two season at Hope, Bergmann was able to lead the Royals to their first trip to the NCCAA  national tournament in nine years.

Before his time at Hope International, Bergmann spent one year at Westminster Christian Academy, located in St. Louis, MO, as a middle school science teacher and three years in Illinois where he earned his Master's degree in Educational Ministries from Wheaton College in 2003. While attending Wheaton College, Bergmann served as General Manager of the Chicago Eagles Select, which participates in the Premier Development League of the United Soccer Leagues, where he focused primarily on the day-to-day operations of the team. These duties include facilitating communication between the staff and the league, overseeing publications, sponsorship, marketing, training, budgets and numerous other duties. Chris also was an International Youth Tour Leader where he coahed teams on short-term sports mission trips. Chris also was involved with the Wheaton College men's soccer team as Assistant Team Chaplain.

Chris also founded Educational Adventures of San Diego, CA. Educational Adventures focused on the mental, emotional and personal wellness of students through private academic mentoring.

His coaching resume also includes stints with the Santa Fe Christian Schools Boys Varsity (CA), SURF Soccer Club (CA), California Soccer State ODP, Westminster Christian Academy Boys Varsity (MO), KOPION F.C.(IL) and Pegasus Soccer Club (IL).  Chris also holds a National Coaching Diploma from the NSCAA.

Chris is a graduate of Westmont College ('96) and married to Kelly Bergamann. Kelly was the Head Women's Soccer Coach at Hope International and will be joining the women's soccer staff as an assistant coach and Head Softball Coach here at Trinity International University.

Assistant Coach: Jason Carlson

Jason Carlson a native of Southern California has been involved in sports for most of his life.  An All-Conference, All-Region soccer player from Silverado High School, located in Victorville, CA. Jason began his collegiate playing career at Cal State San Bernardino.  He transferred to Victor Valley College after his Freshman year.  Jason brought home the first conference championship in thirty years for Victor Valley College.  Jason finished his collegiate playing career at Hope International University, Fullerton, CA.  He was an All-Region nominee for the GSAC and All-Region NCCAA for men's soccer. 

Throughout Jason's collegiate playing career, he was always involved in coaching.  He started as the Head Boys JV soccer coach for Apple Valley High School, Apple Valley, CA.  He then moved to take over the varsity program from 2002 to 2003.  After finishing his collegiate playing career at Hope International University, Jason became Assistant Coach for the HIU Men's Soccer program. 

Jason continues to coach soccer as the Assistant Men's Soccer Coach for Trinity International University, specifically focusing on player recruitment.  Jason is working on his undergraduate degree at Trinity International University in Inter-Disciplinary Studies.  He's also investing in the local community by coaching for the Lincolnshire Lightening Soccer Club, Lincolnshire, IL.  

Jason resides in Gurnee, IL.

Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach: Steven Cox

Steven Cox grew up playing soccer in Canada.  He was a member of the U-17 and U-20 Canadian National team.  Steven attended Houghton College, Houghton, NY and was a four year started.  He earned several awards and his goalkeeping skills opened up opportunities to play within the United Soccer leagues, Premier Development Leagues with the Chicago Eagles Select. 

 

Steven is passionate about coaching and after his collegiate playing career, was the goalkeeper coach for Houghton College for two years.  Steven coaches both the men's and women's goalkeepers at Trinity International University.  He's also investing in the local community as a goalkeeper coach for several youth clubs:  Pegesus, Deerfield, IL and the Lincolnshire Lightening, Lincolnshire, IL

 

Steven resides in Wheeling, IL with his wife Krista.

Assistant Coach/Head Coach Reserve Team:  Karl Anderson 

Karl Anderson played high school soccer at Wilmot Union High School in Wilmot, Wisconsin. He was a three year varsity letter winner while holding the captain's armband, leading his high school in goals and assists each season, and earning All-conference and All-Area honors. After transfering after his freshman season from Colorado Christian University, he became a member of Trinity International University Men's Soccer Program. In his experience at Trinity, his assumed Center Midfield and Fullback Responsiblities. In the offseason as an undergraduate, he coached in the U-14 Boys Kenosha Thunder Club Team. After recieving his Bachelor's degree from Trinity, he assumed a position as assist Reserves coach for Trinity International University Men's Soccer Team while entering into Trinity's Master of Divinity program. He currently serves as Trinity's Head Reserves Coach and resides in Round Lake, IL

Assistant Coach:  Nate Taube

Nathan Taube grew up in Argentina as the son of missionaries. He attended boarding school in Ecuador, where he enjoyed playing and coaching soccer. Nathan attended Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbannais, IL for three years where he played midfield.  At Olivet, he received NAIA and other conference honors. He finished his last year of schooling at Trinity International University where he helped the team place third in the NCCAA National Tournament.

Nathan lives in Chicago with his wife, Kelley. He works as a Case Research Specialist for ACS Recovery Services. He is involved in leadership at his local church.

Nathan assists with the Reserve Team and scouting for Trinity soccer.
